I had the GUI working right away, but hitting record didn't successfully get a real recording and the settings didn't stick.
The terminal commands are fine, but I still don't know how to record an input instead of output. I want to record mic-in...

Re: Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
Well, that worked. But the programs are too non-responsive in Linux to end up being worthwhile... oh well. I guess Linux can't be a complete solution for me at this time. But I'll keep doing what I can with Linux, and it's been good to appreciate the system. I'll have to adapt to having multiple sys...

Re: Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
Oh, FONTS... maybe that's an issue. These programs come with a font to install, and I installed it, but maybe I need to install it within WINE and not just on my Linux system?? Not that this would relate to accessing the MIDI or not (and also it has nothing to do with the difference between running ...

Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
Hi, I'm wanting to run CSE and TPXE software from H-pi.com, see http://www.h-pi.com/downloads.html Thing is, I had TPXE running (with barely tolerable slow response) before on my previous install, which I messed up something when setting up KXStudio. I think TPXE worked, as in it had MIDI out, I cou...

Re: quick keyboard or widget access to alsamixer?
Well, I have a blue-labeled FN button and extra blue labels that work with it. They function with Linux, but the audio controls just go to the regular audio (as in they controlled the system before I installed KXStudio, but now they show a visual change but have no audio effect). The other controls ...

quick keyboard or widget access to alsamixer?
So, my audio is all working so far, but running alsamixer in terminal is the only way I know how to change system sound level. I'm happy to use it, but it would be nice if I could have a functional little widget or a key command to simply raise and lower the master level in alsamixer. Any suggestion...

Re: What to use for saving to mp3/ogg while recording?
Ok, I'm having some errors with the jack capture GUI, and I haven't figured out how to make jack capture connect to the computer's microphone instead of to the system output... terminal jack_capture works for system output. also mp3 capture gives a lame error: "mp3 not supported. liblame was no...

Re: Harmony Assistant
Harmony Assistant is not just a Windows thing, they released it for Linux. But how good the implementation is, I'm not sure. It seemed buggy and slow to me trying the demo... I heard somewhere that it is a Pulse Audio implementation and that they basically ported the Windows version and didn't do th...

Agh. Nevermind this. Brainfart. I meant MELODYNE can't run under Linux!Pablo wrote:Really? What is the problem with musescore? (new thread, please)My only disappoint with Linux so far is not being able to run a couple specialty programs (Musescore mainly)

Re: What to use for saving to mp3/ogg while recording?
Gracias, Pablo. Indeed, I think I need to be able to do mp3 so I know my students won't get confused about file formats. Also, I might like to experiment with something like Audacity's voice-activated recording (which, incidentally, is the first of its type to completely work for me as I expected fo...

Re: What to use for saving to mp3/ogg while recording?
wow, thanks, SP! I wasn't so optimistic... My only disappoint with Linux so far is not being able to run a couple specialty programs (EDIT: Melodyne mainly), but everything else seems to be superior to my old system!

What to use for saving to mp3/ogg while recording?
On my Mac, I use Amadeus Pro to record long audio files and save to mp3 while recording. It's basically like a voice-memo feature. The idea is simply that a 45 minute recording saved directly to mp3 on the fly results in a small finished file right when stopping. For some purposes, that is much bett...

Re: Harmony Assistant
Harmony Assistant can use soundfonts, but the main sounds of the program are in its own unique format. http://www.myriad-online.com/en/sharedxp/sfonts/enindex.htm Overall, the way Harmony Assistant's sounds work, they are similar to soundfonts and are thus not the flexibility of VSTi. For anything t...

Re: Harmony Assistant
Virtual singer is a plugin that is included in the program and can be run as a demo but costs $25 extra to license. It is extremely flexible, including editing of precise phonemes and a huge number of parameters and even record your own voice to make your own model. I find virtual singer really amaz...

Re: Hi — newly switching from Mac
Hola, Angel! Indeed, AV Linux was my first inclination. But I really needed to get over a certain hump of comfort with the basic set-up to feel good and be willing to continue with a system. AV Linux seemed nice, and I now realize more about how I could get it to work. But one of the most fundamenta...
