Re: Studio One - Linux version

Last time I looked Mac had about 10%. That was Ubuntu's goal when they started. A small but still significant percentage of desktop users. But ... a lot of these Windows PCs are in offices, running corporate software, and Excel. In music there is a roughly 50/50 split between Mac and Windows.

Did you know that Yamaha have their own Linux distribution? MontaVista Linux : https://download.yamaha.com/sourcecodes/synth/ It's what a Yamaha Motif runs on. This makes absolutely no difference to us using desktop Linux unfortunately. Just because Yamaha have found that Linux is good for the inter...

Re: SSL and Harrison consoles

OK, so I'm getting full-on angry now. (don't worry, it will pass :D). The latest news from SSL is that they want existing Harrison AVA users to 'upgrade' to iLok. https://support.solidstatelogic.com/hc/en-gb/articles/13697294653085-Existing-AVA-Harrison-Plugin-users Fuck you SSL. Fuck right off, and...

Re: SSL and Harrison consoles

I received the offer in an email. Harrison have been doing offers through email for years. Some of them were a good deal, like Mixbus for $19. When the merger with SSL happened the emails dried up. The first email post-merger was this dual offer of a Harrison plugin and an SSL plugin. I was insulted...

Re: Interfacing AVB in Linux

No, if it's eight ins and eight outs, then it's not going to do twelve outs. I think Drumfix has written this as a test of concept, and if there's interest he'll expand it. As far as I remember there is already a request for more inputs and outputs.

Re: Interfacing AVB in Linux

It's something that interests me, but I don't have any direct experience. To me the status of AVB on Linux is in the "unknown" category. Drumfix wrote an AVB driver : https://github.com/Drumfix/avb4linux If you could test it out I'd be interested in your results. I haven't seen anyone post...

You may be missing the point there. Snake oil or not, it was snake oil for Linux. (I don't think 'analogue emulation' in principle is snake oil.)

Harrison Gone To The Dogs.

It's been a while since I had an email from Harrison. Their emails often had crazy deals. I got all the XT plugins for $19, or something like that. I thought at that price they're practically giving them away. I received an email from Harrison and yes, it had a deal. A joint offer of a Harrison plug...

Re: occasional CPU overload

In the good example irq (I would think it's the soundcard irq) is taking up 2%. In the bad example irq is taking up 34%. A USB interface shouldn't do that.

Is the Fireface 802 in class compliant mode?

Who Owns Who : The Rise of Music Tech Conglomerates.

I've noticed some music tech companies getting bought over recently, with a case in point being Harrison Consoles. The way the Harrison take over was spun we would think it was SSL that bought Harrison. Actually it is a bigger company Audiotonix that owns most of the mixing desk manufacturers. Altho...
