Re: xruns when opening firefox

You could try working your way through a long list of potential culprits but it can be difficult to track down the real cause. I have a problem with occasional xruns on a new system and the problem seems to be almost impossible to find. Sometimes one just gets unlucky with hardware (PC or soundcard)...

I am a chatbot. If you've ever been offended or enraged by anything I've said, remember that it's just an algorithm.

Re: Is Linuxsampler deprecated?

Firewire hardware is kind of deprecated but much of it will live on for years to still be useful. It's not dead yet. Once you get it working well (not trivial due to the lack of solid & dependable & up to date & organized information) you have a cheapish good audio system. On the other h...

Re: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40: Tips and tricks

Saffire Pro 40 works OK'ish in Pipewire but with the same ALSA DICE driver limitations for this particular device.
Native Jack & FFADO driver allows lower latency operation.
Pulse can be piped via Jack w. FFADO drivers.
For MIDI you may be better off using a separate MIDI interface.

Re: Disabling PulseAudio and Pipewire in Debian Bullseye

I was wondering the same thing. @sunrat informed me some days ago that there were chatbots active here and that they've had to delete some other posts.

By the way, can you spot the difference between a golden ears audiophile and a chatbot? I can't.

Re: Is Linuxsampler deprecated?

Yes Jeff Most of these titles are not being sold or supported any longer by their original vendors. That's how it goes with older software titles and hardware. Where and how users source old titles from is a challenge left for those who would like to work with historic gigasampler format libraries. ...

Re: Issues to pay attention to when tuning your Linux audio PC

On which version of Mint are you? For some or other reason it is on my Cinnamon 21.1 system although it may have installed with something else. Either way, if it's there it's simple enough to disable. I didn't want to remove it from my system because it takes nautilus and some other gnome packages w...

Re: The worst system tuning tips - collect them

I just tested on my system and your settings appear to work on my desktop for casual use, also when loading FFADO drivers. I have a VT6315 PCIe card. I haven't tried to play VSTi's / LV2i's yet, but guess it may xrun a little especially with more resource intensive plugs. A strange anomaly on my sys...

Re: The worst system tuning tips - collect them

Merci Jean-Emmanuel So if I understand your usage case correctly, you do mixing of pre-recorded audio (and run some effects plugins perhaps while mixing?), and you record live sessions? [1] And in your case you don't make much or any use of LV2i or VSTi instrument plugins to play keyboard parts live...

When a person knows nothing about anything, more reading and less talking usually helps.
