Re: [Solved(?)] WINE installation snafus

Hmm, Occasionally it might seem like the wine binary program is missing on some OS installs of WINE-staging. Don't worry, depending upon how you requested to install WINE-staging, WINE is probably still there in a runnable form, one way or another. First, you will probably want to run /opt/wine-stag...

Re: [SOLVED] Is a realtime kernel needed?

Wow, amazing tips in this thread. I think we ought to continue the conversation in this direction by way of talking more about good kernel boot paramters. I know for me, just adding "threadirqs" seems to speed up every distro I ever use except for the ones that already have it. I guess it'...

Re: 24/192 Music Downloads ...and why they make no sense

The convention for floating point is that values are in the range [-1;1]. Everything outside is not guaranteed to work. WAV audio header has a format field and there are dozen of formats you can put there. But most editors don't support stuff that is not PCM. Well, we certainly both agree about tha...

Re: Hacked: Github service from Gentoo

Whoah, that's kinda rather very not good! I have been told that Gentoo is historically resilient against certain types of malware/hacks/exploits. I haven't yet used it, so I don't know much about that though. But I get a bad feeling about that news. It "dovetails" with the Microsoft acquis...

Re: Guten Tagen

Here's a pretty good one from Germany. Die Ärtze - "Die klügsten Männer der Welt" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjfrquCjuxw Cheers. Hahaha  that was clever. I will have to look up a translation of the lyrics. I had a vague feeling from the video of what he was saying. Nice ending! ...

Re: Guten Tagen

I'd love to go to Berlin for the people, music, linux, food, computer science and maybe meet some distant family members. For what it's worth, possibly my biggest musical influences are KMFDM (keiner macht fur dich meir) and Front 242. Here's a pretty good one from Germany. Die Ärtze - "Die kl...

Re: Consumer grade bluetooth speakers & latency

Ah I see. It's just an optional control surface implementation that can be controlled via http. Nothing to do with wifi or bt, all you need is networking and a browser. And note that you have to specifically enable it. If it's networking, what is it networking over and thru? doesn't that involve ro...

Re: Noob question (sorry!): connect keyboard to computer

this is off topic, but if you install Patchage, you'll see at a glance what your MIDI gear is called formally in linux and if it's being sensed at all.

Re: 24/192 Music Downloads ...and why they make no sense

They are somewhat annoying, though, because the FL Studio WAV's are a proprietary form of WAV-encoded OGG Vorbis!!!! Or at least they used to be. You could see it for yourself if you had Windows and the freeware codec revealer PlayTime.exe No, that's actually an official feature. Also, I hope you d...

Re: Consumer grade bluetooth speakers & latency

REAPER's tragic flaw (amongst it's deprecated MIDI) is that they recently implemented wifi stuff into it!!! blech! And the default password is totally insecure. So now your DAW can literally be hacked while you're using it. NOT GOOD. At the risk of being offtopic I have to ask what are you on about...

Re: 24/192 Music Downloads ...and why they make no sense

At the risk of DH-flogging, I forgot to mention... I work at 48 kHz 64-bit/32-bit IEEE stereo floating point WAV, and then render to the same for mixdowns. Then I use a linux-based converter utility to convert to 24-bit stereo FLAC for my personal listening files. I also keep backup archival copies ...

Re: 24/192 Music Downloads ...and why they make no sense

This topic is a never-ending topic on sites such as https://gearsz.com You could debate it their for your the rest of your existence, or just make music instead. Since they constantly get new members, and the site is already pretty old and successful, the topic never dies. Personally, I like to maxi...

Re: Consumer grade bluetooth speakers & latency

From what I read elsewhere, BlueTooth is not full-bandwidth audio so while it might be OK for bass and/or monaural sounds, it's a lossy technology thus far. It's still fun for some things though. There might be some alternatives not called "BlueTooth" that use similar principles, however, ...
