Re: Configuring Fedora 20 recording?
Try KxStudio http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Downloads or AVLinux http://www.bandshed.net/AVLinux.html Use one of these until you are comfortable and familiar with the tools for audio production on Linux. Then you can set up a Debian or Arch based system without too much trouble. Fedora might be a b...

Re: Comparing kernels (Debian)
What kind of project is this? Might be an interesting candidate. (though it might be good to have lower-level benchmarks that test more specific properties of the system). The Pro Tools forums have projects that they use as standards like you're talking about. Several, for different stress levels. ...

Re: Comparing kernels (Debian)
That's interesting. I don't know the difference between the two kernels you mention but I'm surprised there is that much of a difference in performance. Yeah, I was surprised too. I thought it might be 5-10 percentage points at most, not a near kernel panic. At the point I shut it off, the guitar h...

Comparing kernels (Debian)
I have the 3.12-rt Debian and the 3.12 Liquorix kernels installed. I got Reaper going with my vsts, samples and the project I was working on before I decided to change distros, and so I decided to do an A/B comparison. I was running Arch before and had the Liquorix kernel installed when I created th...

Re: The hard Linux audio experience
The kxstudio metapackage would take care of that among other things.tatch wrote:I was thinking you don't have a pulse-jack bridge installed. What you described seems a lot like that anyway, that's something that I have problems with too.

Re: The hard Linux audio experience
I loaded the kxstudio repositories to ubuntu studio last night. Still ardour 3 is not available, surprising to me. That was the entire point of going through the process? The directions were to enable the kxstudio repo and install the kxstudio metapackages. The point of that was not to fix any of y...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?
I think I figured out how to update Reaper without having to wait for the KxStudio Reaper package to be updated. Grab the installer from reaper.fm, the 32-bit one that says it works with WINE of course. Create an empty directory, preferably in the c: drive of .wine (let's call it 'New Reaper') and ...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?
Ah, I just installed Reaper the KxStudio way and I see it doesn't use $HOME/.local for Reaper. Sorry if that caused any confusion.

Re: The hard Linux audio experience
I have been researching the sound card issue this past week. It sounds like a nightmare, or so it seemed last year from reading through http://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10104 . I was hoping to see some conclusions from the revelations stated in that thread, but... I know I can't sp...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?
But it just dawned on me that all I have to do is put those symlinks in my home folder! "My Documents" in the dialog box links to there. Sorry in case we were talking at cross-purposes. That "Favorites" thing mislead me. Sure, there you go! You know where Reaper is installed, co...

Re: The hard Linux audio experience
My suggestion, for what it's worth: get Xubuntu 12.04, enable the KxStudio repos and install the metapackages. That will give you an XFCE based version of KxStudio instead of the iso's KDE based version. That might be all you need to solve the lag issues you were experiencing and it will be easier f...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?
Assuming your file manager is Dolphin, since you say you're using KxStudio, navigate to the directory you want the symlinked folder or file in; right click>Create New>Basic link to file or directory. But how do I make those symlinks appear in 'Favorites' in the 'open project' dialog box? If you cre...

Re: Bitwig Release 26.03.2014
It looks like they set the price at a point where they could put out "sale" prices at various times of the year. August is traditionally the toughest time for retail sales and when you are likely to see the lowest prices on any music gear. That being said, with Reaper always available for ...

Re: Cadence Debian RT Kernel
Are you considering that Wheezy is not modern, or Debian in general ? I'm just teasing. Wheezy is getting pretty long in the tooth. I thought they said they were going to speed up the release cycle a bit? I find it amazing that after all these years Debian is on their seventh release. But hey, for ...

Re: Cadence Debian RT Kernel
I also asked about the Siduction kernel and here's the response: http://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=4223.msg35418#msg35418 siduction has CONFIG_HZ=1000 and CONFIG_NO_HZ=y but not RT patch. I have seen several reports on LAU list that audio performance is quite good anyway. Maybe a better opt...
