Re: Eventual LM radio show

I like the idea, Linux audio in general needs more exposure, however, a couple "open-source" songs won't cut the cake. We need some talk.. Tips, audio tutorials, software reviews. An amazing thing would be to show off a song (or instrument) which contains X effect, and then explain how to ...

Re: Anyone else having trouble with RT kernel?

PulseAudio is basically a non-professional JACK. Useless in environments like ours. You did the right thing by removing it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PulseAudio PulseAudio developer Lennart Poettering described it as "the software that currently breaks your audio" I love it when develop...

Re: onboard audio + mixer trouble

I was just thinking, what if it's the power supply of the mixer itself feeding noise back into the power lines and then the laptop's supply not filtering it out?... That'd be the funniest thing ever, but I've seen the first part happening and the second doesn't sound too unrealistic :D Try connectin...

Re: how to improve vocal-quality

As qharley said, you need better gear. But if you really insist (or just plain can't afford anything else, which I understand), I have not listened to the sample, but I can already tell that you need some noise reduction (in Audacity?), and heavy equalization (you need to play around with it). Maybe...

Re: a doubt on sample rates

Everything should be at the same sample rate. Every time you upsample or downsample something quality is lost. (Obviously, resampling is also extra load for your CPU.. I don't know if the extra load of resampling is more or less than the extra load of working at higher rates, I think it depends on w...

Re: onboard audio + mixer trouble

It's not a ground loop, it's switching noise from the power supply... This is a weird situation. Facts that fit the theory: -It's high-pitched -It goes away when you unplug the power supply (because batteries don't need much voltage regulation, which is where the switching action is) -It goes away w...

Re: JaMIN presets

presets here serve one purpose: educational. If you don't know how to use jamin, you can then load a preset and see how the scenes are used, etc. The rest is up to you, if you're lazy, just try out presets and maybe one will suit your mix ... if your karma is good enough  That would work on ot...

Re: JaMIN presets

Hmm. I don't really understand the purpose of these presets.. Every mix needs its own compression/limit/eq setting... You can't really make presets for it IMHO. Exactly what I was thinking... Why would anyone want a preset for this? If you're at the point you need a preset, you might as well use th...

Massive, all-inclusive Debian sources.list (yet without any "external" sources, only those that everyone already has)... It takes like 5 minutes to update  deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/ stable contrib main non-free deb ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/ testing contrib main non-free deb ...

Re: Ardour Crashes!

I agree with studio32 that eye-candy and heavy works (be it audio, video, or hardcore CAD) don't really mix... That aside, you can try updating to Ardour 2.8. I've been using it since a couple days, and it fixed one of the most annoying problems: All the plug-ins appeared twice in the list, and ther...

Ardour 2.8 fail

Today was a fairly normal day in the morning as I started to resume my work in the studio, until.... http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/4521/ardourfail.png That message made my brain crash, and my wife had to reboot me :D The problem went away by deleting the bus and making a new one.. Re: kernel 2.6.29 is out

actually, there's something strange ... the DSP load is a few % (~4% on my system) when nothing runs at all, just jackd. If I open ardour and start a completely new session without anything, just the master bus, DSP load jumps to 8% ... if I now open a VSTi, it jumps at 15% ... if I open rosegarden...

Yes it is, we would need some massive cooperation.. But I think it could be possible. Most of Linux/FOSS is made out of massive cooperation (between hackers and enthusiasts) after all

Re: The Code Linux

More such kind of videos? Maybe a bit more GNU and less Linux? Maybe we should make one? Of course the movie itself would suck big time, but you have to admit that the soundtrack would be quite the soundtrack  But I'm serious about the "maybe we should make something"... I mean, at ...
