Re: Qmidi alternative for Linux?

The only trackers I can think of are renoise, sunvox and radium but I don't know how they compare to the ones you've listed. The video doesn't show anything special as far as I can tell, just loading a sample and inputting notes. I would recommend looking in to renoise if you haven't already, it wo...

Qmidi alternative for Linux?

I am looking for a Qmidi alternative in Linux. I have started experimenting with audio trackers and am interested in finding a program that has the same functionality in combination with GoatTracker as shown in this video . Qmidi is a shareware OSX program for Mac. I am using Slackware64 14.2 with S...

Re: Reaper setup issues for complete DAW amateur.

I would use Jack if possible. I read in the reaper forum that there can be problems when using pulse audio. Thanks for the reply. OK, good to know. If you have a 64bit system only use x86_64 version. I have both systems. "want to start by getting basic functionality like LMMS. How do I play so...

Reaper setup issues for complete DAW amateur.

I have decided to take the jump and start using Reaper. The tipping point for me was the lack of possibilities for re-mapping MIDI notes to MPC pads on my Novation Launchkey Mini MKII and Launchkey 49 MKII keyboards. This is apparently easily done in Reaper . Thankfully, I have also found a posting i...

Re: Studioware - Slackware 14.2 and MIDI keyboard.

Well, I can partially answer this myself: $ whereis fluidsynth fluidsynth: /usr/bin/fluidsynth /usr/include/fluidsynth /usr/include/fluidsynth.h /usr/man/man1/fluidsynth.1.gz Unfortunately, I had already searched for a soundfont in /usr/bin, and I haven't found any in /usr/include either. ----- OK, ...

Studioware - Slackware 14.2 and MIDI keyboard.

I have decided to take my confusion to a higher level and have installed the Studioware audio bits on top of a clean, full, Slackware 14.2 install. The Slackware install is on a Dell Vostro laptop. After a night long compiling, everything is installed and I am trying to get my Novation Launchkey Min...

Beginning piano / keyboard navigation.

I have started learning to play some piano. I have graduated from Piano Booster to online service (and program) Playground Sessions. I can read notes and know where the corresponding keys are on the piano. I am 2/3 of the way through"boot camp" in Playground Sessions. However, I am experie...

Broken package error wineasio-amd64 and wine-rt-amd64 KXStudio

I have added the KXStudio repos to Peppermint 8 (Ubuntu 16.04) and am trying to install Wine ASIO and Wine RT. I have enabled 32bit packages just in case, but the recommend libgif4 is uninstallable, which is apparently preventing installation: $ sudo apt install wineasio-amd64 Reading package lists....

Renoise (tracker) vs. piano roll. Moving from notation editor.

I have mainly been using a notation editor to write music and have only used a DAW (LMMS) for inspiration when I need to find the notes I want to use, by using a piano roll. Having seen Renoise (a tracker), the logic of the approach appeals to me. However, I am having some difficulty wrapping my hea...

Re: Looking for DAW with strong notation editor on any OS.

@ Jack Winter Thanks for the links.
@ rghvdberg I am experiencing a similar problem with Rosegarden as with GarageBand. In the case of Rosegarden, it just lazily adds a quarter note to one measure, rather than two tied eighth notes shared between two measures.

Re: Looking for DAW with strong notation editor on any OS.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have had some difficulty finding out much about the notation editor in Reaper. Are you familiar with MuseScore (and I assume Sibelius) input that allows you quickly to write notes by using a QWERTY keyboard? There is a shortcut for time length and then you just press a,...

Looking for DAW with strong notation editor on any OS.

I up until now have been using a combination of LMMS and MuseScore, but it would be fantastic if there was a DAW with a MuseScore or Sibelius class notation editor. Unfortunately, the notation editor seems to always be a week link for DAWS, if they at all have one. The worst case I came across recen...
