you could as a compromise start a "configuration" discussion in the existing subforums (hardware or soft apps) and make them sticky. But if there are too many apps or hardware, you may end up with too many sticky threads ...

When I resigned from my job in July 2007, I devoted one month to intense reading, and I do mean intense. In August, I started drawing plans on how to organize things (what room, what firniture, etc). I tried 2 or 3 combinations with dummy furniture, etc, to feel how comfortable I would be (facing th...

OK, there you go (a bit random). You can see it's a tiny bit messy but under control :) On the screens, you can see a rosegarden session with Addictive Drums and Qjackctl. In the bottom picture, you can have a glimpse of my PC in the back and my mini-ITX mythTV server on the low shelf. I have plans ...

rosegarden is a MIDI sequencer so you need software plugins to associate sounds to your sequenced patterns. Hydrogen is mixing both (sequencing and sampling) but in its own internal format, though it understands MIDI (you can play hydrogen from your h/w keyboard for exemple) and record MIDI events i...

jamin is used for mastering, which is the "art" of boosting the overall level of your music. The cool thing is that it has a very detailed EQ (1024 bands) that you can edit on the fly with a pencil tool, it has an efficient compressor, divided in three independent compression modules corre...

I tried them, they work fine but I had a few xruns with them. EnergyXT comes in a linux version FWIW :)
I think quite a few ppl try to use them as a VST host.

funny name, isn't it ? :) I've been using unstable for many years and really, the only unstable thing I came across regularly is ... me :) If you like bleeding edge stuff, that's a safe bet (not like experimental, this one does not even garanty correct dependencies). My PC is on all the time. The on...

OK, For a long time, I was using hydrogen. This is a great app and I even tried to improve myself between sound takes, chit-chat and other things. But I was not satisfied, despite my hours spent in mixing the different elements, the crashes it triggered, etc. So I looked for an alternative that woul...

Pure Debian Sid

that says it all :) I started with Ubuntu Studio, was ok at the beginning but it started to become unstable (don't know why). Switched to 64studio, realized it was debian, so I transformed it to a pure debian sid, debian being my favorite linux distro (gave up redhat when it forked to EL and fedora ...

Ardour

wanna record stuff ? Ardour!!! that's a killer app. Being on the ardour forum, I know there are tons of people who have problems with it (jackd is a bit sensitive and ardour won't run without it). But when you have a hardware that is very well supported by linux and that is comfortable with low late...

hello

Hi, Just discovered this forum thanks to a guy in the Ubuntu forum. I am a fulltime musician (living on savings during an undetermined period of time, until it runs out I guess :)), living in Denmark around Copenhagen. I've been playing music for 20 years or so but only started production on my own ...
