Re: snd-aloop, jack, etc

hey, glad you got it to work :) don't except too much from this hack, as I mentioned before, low latency is not its strength! for amarok, have you tried the gstreamer backend if you want to use ALSA ? I never attempted to use a convolver on the output of 'cloop'. Maybe you could tune the parameters ...

Re: Realtime audio in Java

just found the time to test the loopback hack with java apps on my laptop: it works :) I just used some simple audio file players. Some did not even show a "preference" menu where you could choose your device (I have the loopback device defined in .asoundrc set up as the default device whi...

Re: Realtime audio in Java

I tried jjack some time ago when I had time to fool around ;) A pain to set up, but it worked ... i.e. it connected to jack and java apps could be heard through jack. But performance-wise, it sucked ... but my testing was not at all thorough and I quickly gave up on using this. Instead, the snd-aloo...

Re: Crossing the Arch

@capoeira

The only way that I could use to make skype work with jack is with the ALSA virtual loopback device:

http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Jack_ ... ack_bridge

I got reports from quite a few ppl that it worked for them, so you can always try it.

Re: KXStudio 10.04.2 is out!

agreed with falkTX. The alsa loopback workaround will not make audacity happy if it is configured to use ALSA. The only way to get audacity usable with Jack concurrently with other jack apps that would like to connect to audacity's jack ports is to save a patchbay setup in qjackctl due to the curren...

Re: KXStudio 10.04.1 is out!

OK, good to know it was taken care of :)

as a side note, it looks like more and more distros are hiding original binaries behind scripts with same or similar names . It is OK but can sometimes confuse old timers (like me ... yeah, I'm getting old ... )

Re: KXStudio 10.04.1 is out!

You can set the jackd binary in QJackCtl settings, at the top, the "Server Path" option. Set it to "/opt/jack1/bin/jackd" (only works with "jack1 qjackctl"). Then all the other apps must be started using "jack1 <app>" as well. That way you get Jack1 in KXStud...

Re: will we lose our apps to Mac and Windows eventually??

just to add my 2 cents:

Jack provides 2 things:
- a shared library
- an application server

and to please funkmuscle ... look at my "ardour on windows" experience :

Re: will we lose our apps to Mac and Windows eventually??

well, if it scales with the number of PCs in use world-wide, the ratio windoze vs others is absolutely aberrant. I read somewhere that windoze PCs represent 85-90%. I don't know the precise figure, but that was something of this order. Linux is very lucky to have a few dedicated devs that know what ...

Re: jackd + libffado + echo audiofire 2

the left hand side port window shows system inputs (microphone, etc, anything that can transfer audio to your firewire device), the right and side port window shows system outputs (probably your speakers, headphones, whatever device can receive audio). In general, a working system will have ports na...

hi, welcome here :)

don't know how to fix your firewire issue or whether this is an issue at all. But have you tried to disconnect and reconnect the test clients to all playback ports (not only system:dev_unknown4) ?

Hi GMaq,

Nice job :)

I note that your list of softwares does not mention jconvolver, libzita-* and other tools made by Fons Adriaensen (jkmeter, jaaa, etc).

Any reason for not including these tools ?

Re: Multimedia players through jack in ubuntu karmic and lucid

I told my wife not long ago something that I learned from experience. She had a problem with windoze and lost quite some hair on it before calling me for help. After a good laugh, I said:

check the h/w first! s/w second ... now she knows, and so do you as far as I can tell from your post :D

Re: Multimedia players through jack in ubuntu karmic and lucid

hi there, when you say "I lost all my audio", do you mean when jack is NOT running ? Because the version of this flash plugin lib is only valid when jack is running, it is not meant to support all types of audio layer. try going back to the source directory, and type: sudo make uninstall h...
