Re: Not great news... AV Linux Forum shutting down September 1st

I used httrack and have successfully created a forum archive and tested it hosted on my webspace, it's not pretty but most of the links etc. seem to be intact so there will be an archive! This can be tested here but note it is only a test archive and the final archive and forum backup will occur Se...

Re: Not great news... AV Linux Forum shutting down September 1st

an AVL subforum was very kindly offered here but unfortunately I would need to moderate it and that brings up the same time crunch issue that my own forum faced Moderation in form of removing spam, hateful people is done by a complete staff here and will include a potential AVL subforum A "com...

Re: MIDI controller software

I'm looking for a way to send MIDI CCs from my laptop to various pieces of hardware. Are there any programs which let you map custom CCs to faders/encoders, and send them over ALSA? I haven't done this for a while but I think PureData allows this? (might not be the easiest one to get started with t...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time

On my current system (Mint 17.1 'Rebecca') I cannot install jack_control and it is not installed. But on my "toy" (antique little laptop) with Debian 10 'Buster' it is installed. How did y'all install jack_control ? I think Mint is Debian-based as well right? Then a useful tool is 'apt-fi...

Re: Why "notes", duples?

Does anybody make a DAW where one can independently vary the tempo and time signature of each track discretely? I would really like to have a DAW like that. Emulating that by time-scaling notes manually is possible (e.g. in ardour), but it would take a lot of manual effort and would be very inconve...

Re: FOSDEM 2020 developer room for music production software?

The annual gettogether of the LAU/LAD community is LAC, https://lac.linuxaudio.org/

It sounds great to also do a room at FOSDEM - especially since last LAC was in the US that might complement it neatly! Perhaps get in touch with the LAC organizers?

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

are you on the latest version of the script? I didn't know that it was an "alive" project There haven't been many updates - I'm not actively tuning my system at the moment so there's not many lessons to encode. I'd be happy to accept contributions though! Do you think https://github.com/r...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?

I tried raboof's command: $ SOUND_CARD_IRQ=129 ./realTimeConfigQuickScan.pl and I get: Can't locate QuickScanEngine.pm... That sounds like https://github.com/raboof/realtimeconfigquickscan/issues/8 which should be fixed in https://github.com/raboof/realtimeconfigquickscan/pull/23 since december - a...

Re: VST3 SDK finally GPL'ed!

It appears I was conflating the consequences of commercial software using one license over the other to apply here since Mixbus is a commercial application that uses a combination of open and closed source code, and even then, it doesn't look like my understanding of the issues is correct. It'd def...

Re: VST3 SDK finally GPL'ed!

AFAICS Harrison doesn't do that: certainly you can modify (the GPL part of) MixBus and just run it? This is interesting! So in theory, I could get some ardour patch, and make myself bug-fixed version of Mixbus? I don't see why not. How easy this is depends a lot on how much the ardour and mixbus co...

Re: VST3 SDK finally GPL'ed!

If I understand the situation correctly, Ardour will never move to GPLv3 as Mixbus would no longer be able to use Ardour's code due to the additional restrictions of that license Did you find a statement by them to this effect somewhere? I'm no expert on this, but as I understand it, the GPLv2 lice...
