Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.

Yes, and they make sense. Pads sen 'note on - note off' messages, on ch 10, which is commonly used for drums. Others send some ctrl. It seems that the keyboards are setup for commercial programs with presets for those programs. Can you post something about how you setup your LMMS presets to work wi...

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

Wow you're doing it! Awesome! Don't be so happy right now. Today I had quite much time, but during normal week, no time, at least at such time of the day that I could talk & play in house. Maybe one video / month might be realistic. (And today, result was time spent, but 0s of audio & video...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.

So when you write that your keyboard "sends something" on all but three buttons, do you mean that each sends a midi event that is separate and distinguishable from each other midi event? Yes, and they make sense. Pads sen 'note on - note off' messages, on ch 10, which is commonly used for...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.

I had a Samson Graphite 49 that I sold some time ago. I am a newbie, but my impression was that it was great kit. There were two problems that I ran into. The first was that the editor software that came with it (the software to change what the keys and pads do) only ran on Windows or OS X. Probabl...

Re: Newbie wants to start using midi keyboard.

There is the added issue of finding a keyboard controler with semi weighted keys and pad, that can be easily edited in Linux, rather than needing a proprietary editor that only runs on Windows or OS X. Any advice? I would say that any usb-midi keyboard would work, plug it in, and in LMMS connect it...

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

But its probably well worth trying to make a 30 second song or something in each and deciding which lends best for your workflow. If you do so it would be great if you could share your experience. I think part of the reason there aren't many reviews is because most folks are already decided and whe...

Re: Drum machine with patterns?

get some mini-keyboard attached to guitar, so that I can command chord changes while playing. for a guitarist, the best choice is a 1 octave foot pedal unit like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FCB1010?adpos=1o1&creative=55642031881&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gcl...

Re: USB audio interface for guitar recording/effects

Hi @tavasti, yes, 16bit is fine, it's CD quality eh. What Digitech unit do you have? RP50 and RP255. RP255 has also usb interface, but I get cracks with recording from it. Might be resolvable with tuning, like replacing alsa_in with zita-a2j. Example of sound in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmVf...

Re: Drum machine with patterns?

Got BackupBand working, and indeed, that's great software! In fact, couldn't even dream there is such software. Works as drum machine, but also as band. I started to think how to get some mini-keyboard attached to guitar, so that I can command chord changes while playing. Now bit shuffling with j_e_...

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

That chart looks very nice, but also looks misleading. For example, it says "no" to JACK transport and JACK MIDI on Tracktion. But I can use almost everything I want inside the application itself and I can route JACK input/output with Catia quite trivially. Also MIDI works pretty well. Th...

For me, not too much help, for my candidates, did not make really difference.

Actually gave me two more candidates, EnergyXT and Libre Octave Studio, but not really. EnergyXT is commercial, LOS is dead?

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

Luckily for you, you can try them all for free! It does cost time. Yes, I know, and trying to avoid spending (more) time :-) But its probably well worth trying to make a 30 second song or something in each and deciding which lends best for your workflow. Re: USB audio interface for guitar recording/effects

@tavasti that Behringer you pointed to, is like the one I have but mine is older unit without usb/compression. But beware I doubt if this less expensive model supports 24bit usb2 compliant recordings from the USB port. Sure, might not be 24 bit, but for low budget gear, can you expect those extra b...

Re: Drum machine with patterns?

http://www.powerdrumkit.com Try this: Run winecfg. Click the "Libraries" tab. Click the drop-down list and add "d2d1" to the list of "Existing overrides." Click "Edit..." Set it to disabled. Click OK until winecfg is gone. Run the plugin again. That works! Te...
