Thanks for the suggestions.
In the end I found a script which as well as measuring, will normalise to a LKFS. http://k.ylo.ph/2016/04/04/loudnorm.html

LKFS/LUFS meter for Linux?
I have been editing some podcasts which I am now mastering. I would like to find a way of measuring LKFS/LUFS on Ubuntu.
Is there a Linux tool to measure LKFS/LUFS?

Re: Midi Controller Stops When Ardour Runs
Aha. I can hear the instrument fine if I put Ardour into record. But if the track is armed when Ardour is playing (not in record) the instrument does not respond to the midi controller.
I feel I am missing something very obvious here!

Re: Tunestorm: composition with a haiku, deadline January 15
An un -competition? You crazy linux people. I knew it was a good, albeit somewhat painfull, move to ditch windows. It'll be a an excellent way for me to actually do some recording rather than searching xrun solutions. Just to be clear - is it a piece of music that references a haiku to be completed ...

Re: Mixing a song/album
I do not know of any guide but I do have a tip: Learn how to use compression.
Mastering compression is often the break through moment for those learning to mix. It is often overlooked and misunderstood. But it is at the heart of a successfull mix.

So did I. Repeatedly bouncing tracks until you had 99% hiss. Great fun. I've still got some recordings.English Guy wrote:I started on cassette multi tracking.
Thanks for the tip. I'll read the ardour manual over the next week.

Old Fella New To Linux
I'm an oldish fella who did most of my recording on 2" tape. I had an atari back in the 1980's which we smpte synced with a stripe on track one. I had a suitcase of floppys! When i first got the atari it took weeks to even find someone who knew anything about computers. It then took another few...

Perfect - That did it. Thank you very much.
And if I'm correct in thinking that you are the dev behind kxstudio thanks very much for your fine work. I spent days failing to configure ubuntu-studio but kxstudio seems to be working straight out of the box.

Hello, I am a musician who is reasonably competent with cubase on windows. But I completely new to linux, so please aim any answers to someone who doesn't understand the os nor the linux music apps.
