Try kxstudio or avlinux. I've been struggling with ubuntustudio for a few months with all sorts of random dropouts and errors. The moment I switched, a lot of them vanished and I could start doing some music.

A few patches. Copy to your home folder or open .sineshaperpresets and add to the end of file.

I think busses are used to add effects/automation to tracks. Then you route the track or multiple tracks to that bus. Miniaktools says on the website it can be compiled under linux.
With chippanfire's editor you get the source code which are max/msp patches. I don't think max runs on linux, maybe under wine?
