Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

If you've got a camera, why don't you take a picture of the knobs on the front of your FTP while you're at it. I have a theory...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

How you set it up depends on what track you want to record to.

As long as you never link an input directly to an output you will have no feedback.

At this point I'm not quite clear exactly what your problem is. Are you still unable to record?

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

Okay, what track are you trying to record with? Right now capture_1 (most likely the input labeled "1" on the front of the FTP) is routed to: Audio 2/in 1 Audio 3/in 1 Audio 4/in 1 Audio 5/in 1 and Audio 6/in 1 capture_2 (most likely the input labeled "2" on the front of the FTP)...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

Hold your horses, hahah! In general they shouldn't be--especially if you aren't using headphones, you'll get a feedback loop). That was just to diagnose if the FTP was hooked up to Jack and working correctly. In normal circumstances the outputs should only be connected to the outputs of applications...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

No, you would always see "system_capture_0," "system_capture_1," etc. This is how I would restart ALSA: sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload but rebooting would do the same thing. Are you sure you haven't changed any settings since when you got it working with your guitar? From the secon...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

The capture ports will always be there regardless of whether a cable is plugged in or not. Sometimes the FTP doesn't engage into 24-bit mode properly and will hiss funnily. Try restarting it, or restarting your computer.

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

well if you are getting the mic through your computer speakers look to see what is routed in jack to your computer speakers and then route that to ardour...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

Trial by elimination  Assuming you have jack configured correctly and it is routed to Ardour, but you just don't know which input it is. Just create an equal number of tracks to inputs (if you are still using the Fast Track Pro you really shouldn't have more than 2... maybe 4 if you have th...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

I think you could jury rig rackarack as an ardour plugin by using a send instead. Instead of inserting a plugin insert a send and send it to rackarack. Then create a new bus, and have the input for the new bus be the output of rackarack. then route the output of the new bus to the master in. you can...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

No matter what you are recording (software synthesizer, drum machine, microphone, guitar) the optimum input level is always as high as you can get it without the risk of digital clipping. Before you record any tracks arm them in Ardour, this will cause that track's volume meter to monitor the input ...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

um, you could try changing the tempo in Ardour. Essentially, other then double timing the tempo I don't think you can (or should) do too much fiddling in Hydrogen. However, I think your big problem is probably that the tempo in Ardour is not matched to what your playing. Even if you aren't comfortab...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

restart or force reload alsa (I gave the command for doing so somewhere above). For some reason if you power cycle the FTP without rebooting the computer too you need to force reload alsa.

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

256 and 3 should be plenty stable without sacrificing low latency too much. however if you are using a lot of CPU heavy effects (certain reverb plugins are notorious for this) on the guitar you might want to go even higher. I generally just start really high (like 1024 and 3) then work down till I e...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

A lot of times increasing the frames per period and periods per buffer will get rid of xruns. However 93 mseconds is a long fricking xrun. I think that its more likely that Ardour crashed or something to cause that xrun. But regardless, increasing the frames/period and periods per buffer will be eas...

Re: Jack not finding M-Audio Fast Track device

Yeah the best thing about Jack is that you can sync all the jack applications to the jack clock. So when you hit play/record in Ardour, it automatically starts playing in Hydrogen and any other connected jack applications. Because of this, I might recommend laying down the drum track first, then you...
