GSCW-2 kit for Hydrogen
A little backstory, discovering Hydrogen seemed like a dream come true: intuitive step-sequencing, ability to daisy-chain patterns into songs, fantastic. But the kits . . . compared to the paywares, it's not even close. Then I tried the GSCW-2, a great-sounding rock kit with some real flexibility . ...

Re: Cakewalk 9.01 Home Studio under Wine with KXStudio
I think we're losing sight of the fact that a music studio is not a standalone application. Libre Office can really compete with MS Office (in fact it's compatible with all versions of Office, which is more than I can say for MS itself.) VLC slaughters the Mac and MS equivalents, largely 'cause they...

Re: Cakewalk 9.01 Home Studio under Wine with KXStudio
Reaper has a pre-beta linux version, but devs are looking for someone to complete the job. Considering the Windows version often works fine in Wine (officially supported!), most devs and users don't worry much about a native Linux version I think... Come on Falk, that was a pretty dismissive reply ...

Too bad OP left the forum, that was just the kind of helpful response he was looking for.studio32 wrote:Ask on Cakewalk forums for a linux version.

I'm sure you already asked Reaper to create a Linux version, how did that go?

Re: Rapidly developing skill in sight-reading in guitar and
Nootka looks interesting but by this time I thought we'd have something really superior. It's just a note-checker with no provision for learning rhythms and provides no help for the most important element of sight-reading, which is learning to read ahead of what you're playing. My favorite analogy i...

Re: Drum sostware usage.
...no, i never used all this before, but now i'm interested in doing homerecordings. I advise caution. Put it this way, Mac is a smart OS in the sense that if you start an audio workstation, it figures you obviously want high-performance audio with low-latency. You don't have to do anything. Window...

Re: Drum sostware usage.
Interesting that nobody's mentioned Hydrogen. I recently had to do guide tracks for my drummer (that is, a click with guitar parts so he could easily follow the arrangement while recording drums) and the songs have a fair number of tempo and time-signature changes. Doing this in a piano roll would b...

Re: KX mini manual
Dan, Wolftune, good to see you working harmoniously (pardon the awful pun) once again, the results are fantastic. Most impressive that so much solid info is conveyed so quickly, already I have a much better understanding of how things work in Linux audio. I'm a pretty typical potential convert to so...

Re: stopping jack makes it an unkillable process, destroys h
Turning it on and off is as risky as playing with knifes. OMG, doubled over laughing, nice analogy. Wish I could help but all I can offer is moral support: the other day I reinstalled Windows from scratch and reinstalled all my software, and the drivers, then spent hours tweaking the services to di...

Which ones? Boot Repair has worked for me before, never had to go beyond the "recommended repair" default. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repairjamsterthecool wrote: I've tried several methods

Re: Trouble getting Reaper working
Hey Dan, Regarding the Alesis outputs, that may be an issue; it has the option for 4 at 24-bit, or 2 at 16-bit; maybe that's what's causing the issues. I've tried both options, and also tried setting Jack to 0. I'll try some other things in a day or two, off to rehearse for now. Looking forward to f...

Re: Trouble getting Reaper working
So, ran welcome screen, force-reset, logged out, configured JACK (same as Manic's settings,) stopped Jack and tried to restart so I could give Qtractor a go, no dice. Start and "force restart" do nothing, Jack is dead. Couple of questions, a) could this be an issue with my audio device? It...

Re: Trouble getting Reaper working
Hey guys, Thanks for all the help; things are getting weird . . . since last time, -re-installed 64-bit to try suggestions. Did everything the same, but a) registered 32-bit wine, as per Reaper install (thanks Dan.) b) switched to 3 periods (thanks Manic.) c) stayed at 1024 frames (thanks Todd.) Res...

Re: Trouble getting Reaper working
Reaper is windows software. The best way to use it is to install and use it on Windows. Yeah, I'm aware of that. There are sometimes issues though . . . Windows has dozens of programs, many useful only for large corporations, running in the background all the time. If you're running CPU-intensive s...
