Re: "A new version of Kubuntu is available"

Try install SDDM display manager, it worked for me (no more "startx" :P ).
Thanks, luciorgomes - that really rescued my doing the same thing!

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install sddm
That does it all! Also I had to re-do the repos and stuff, but it is working ok now.

Re: Acer C7 Chromebook $199 at Walmart runs KXStudio W/ JACK

danboid,

No, you are correct - the KXStudio repos will not work on ARM processors. I'll edit the post to state that clearly.

However, to run Jack they will need to stop cras presently, though that may be fixed soon.

Acer C7 Chromebook $199 at Walmart runs KXStudio W/ JACK!

This may surprise you as much as it surprised me... Special thanks goes to David Schneider (dnschneid) who started crouton and to drinkcat at the crouton issues list for finding out some important details concerning turning off the Chrome Audio System (cras) so you don't inadvertently make strangene...

Re: KX mini manual

danboid, Treeeeeee-mendous! Thanks! Terry You mean like I documented here? viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10271 ;) Its a good point though and when you said that I was sure I had mentioned this in the ALSA chapter but, if I did, it has been edited away since but its there now. The relevant paragraph now r...

Re: KX mini manual

I assure you that anyone using an SPDIF (or S/PDIF ) digital connection from their computer to an amp is going to give up on Linux and KXStudio for audio unless it is made clear somewhere in this manual how to connect it - whether via kmix or alsamixer or whatever. Newbies do not know how to search ...

Re: Enable S/PDIF PCM with JACK Audio by adding IEC958 in KM

It was fate. Terry I've only just seen this thread and its quite sad that you say you spent 3 hours trying to enable SPDIF because a few months before you started this thread I had already posted a keyword-laden guide to this same process on these forums: http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?...

Re: KX mini manual

Ahhh - I think I shall make the power-of-two ones colored green, then, to emphasize their being the best choices in most situations. Thanks for getting me to see what this meant - I was reading "power of 2" as "divisible by 2" and was not getting the point at all! The article her...

Re: List of JACK Frame & Period settings ideal for USB inter

The Guitarix issue is interesting to note - thanks for adding that to the wiki. I'll edit this article to match. Terry I put this into the wiki as well, but thought I'd mention it here: I discovered yesterday that Guitarix doesn't like frames/period values that are not powers of two. If you have per...

Re: List of JACK Frame & Period settings ideal for USB inter

Heh... I guess this rule would definitely break the 44.1 items, then! They are very odd! :-) Seems all the others in this list are even, so they would follow the rule you mention. But I added the warning as another note at the top in this version and the wiki version to be clear on that issue. [Edit...

Re: KX mini manual

While discussing latency, keep in mind that you'll want to use even-numbered latency "theoretical" numbers when employing a USB interface, as explained in this article: List of JACK Frame & Period settings ideal for USB interface Or link to the same info at the Wiki: http://wiki.linuxm...

Re: KX mini manual

If you folks assemble some documentation, I'll make some videos from sections and post them on YouTube. My style is low-key (See my channel to see what I mean), but I like doing them and they often help many folks better than reading does. I follow up with immediate responses to comments I receive, ...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 - success!

Hi Terry! Autostatic said that Firewire interfaces seem to work better with whole number latencies too and my Scarlett 2i4 seems to run happily at 1.3ms latency so it doesn't seem that its a hard and fast rule. If you are getting that 1.3ms figure from Cadence, FalkTX says that is not necessarily a...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 has two inputs and two outputs, is USB, accepts direct inputs of phone jack including TRS ones AND XLR inputs for mics in a dual-purpose multi-jack, and is plug and play with great latency (see this Wiki article for frame/buffer and period settings for USB device ) There i...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 - success!

I have just updated the OP of this thread with the results of my tests trying to find the optimal JACK settings for tracking with the 2i4 under KXStudio. This info could be useful for the wiki too so I'll look to adding it there too. Using Terry's suggested buffer (frames sounds way too much like s...

Re: List of JACK Frame & Period settings ideal for USB inter

Maybe something worthwhile to add to the article: quite some software and plug-ins expect frames that are a power of 2 (like guitarix). You might get weird errors when using frame numbers that are not a power of 2 or the plug-in/software won't even start at all. Great information to have! I've adde...
