Re: HELP!

You do have the relevant tracks armed for recording, right?

That one bit me once when I was tired...

Re: Ardour3 and crazy xruns

Hhhmmm... That's strange, then. I'm having no dramas at all with latest (binary release) A3 on Arch64 with an M-Audio 2496 running at 256 frames/period, 2 periods/buffer and 96000 sample rate. The workstation does double-duty as my everyday / development machine and almost *never* xruns apart from o...

Re: Ardour3 and crazy xruns

Is Jack using RT properly?

What does it say at startup?

I recently had some dramas when I dumped GDM (or any DM) in favour of startx...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

Alex, Sure :-) The easiest / best way to go about this is to use Jack's routing - route input to relevant software, then route software's out/s as well as media player's outs to the cards outs. Obviously, you'll need appropriate (Jack-aware) software. Something like Guitarix and VLC should present y...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

Alex, You certainly can ;-) Are you after hardware (through the card and straight back out to your amp with no other signal processing (as well as the signal being converted to digital which you can route to software)) or software (being able to hear your software-processed signal while also hearing...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

Alex,

You won't be able to run directly from your guitar to the 2496 without a preamp or DI :-)

Your instrument is "instrument level" out, but the card needs a "line level" in...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

Alex, Yup - the analogue ins / outs are indeed RCA. They are also line level. This means you (may well) need a preamp or DI. For my guitar, I run from pedalboard final out (or amp line out, depending on the amp I'm using and how I want to monitor, etc) into an active preamp box (I happen to use a Be...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

Alex, Groovy - then the 2496 exceeds your requirements :-) It's a PCI card. Completely supported ("plug/play"). And capable of *very* low latencies using Jack (jackd). You'll want to use the envy24 mixer or, better, mudita24 - these provide native control / mixing for the ICE1712. They can...

Re: Ubuntu Audio Interface Help

Alex,

Depends a lot on your needs, but the M-Audio 2496 sounds a lot like what you're asking for :-)

How many inputs / outputs and of what type will you require?

Mattt.

Are you in the 'audio' group (and did you log out/in or reboot since you added yourself to that group (so it takes effect))?

Re: I cannot control the m audio audiophile 2496

Even better - install the Envy24 Control mixer (or better again, the updated Mudita one). It's made for the audio processor on the 2496 ;-)

Easy to find - I think Envy24 is in the Ubuntu repos...

Re: Delta 1010 only shows 2 in, 2 out in jack (sporadic problem)

Your audio interfaces could be changing hardware locations (ie: hw:1, hw:0, etc).

You can specify the names to jack or qjackctl - just run:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/asound/cards
...and get the names from within the square brackets. Then just specify them as hw:interfacename ;-)

What does the qjackctl messages window have to say when trying to start jack?

Re: Help with Sound Device UsbPre and Alsa/Jack

USB interfaces require 3 periods (in your jack settings). I'd guess yours is set to 2 - jack never starts for me under such circumstances ;-)
