Re: Too many distros
The external repo only helps the installation of new packages. Besides the repositories for Arch and Ubuntu, KXStudio is pretty much the same for all distros. Having an Arch repo means I can push my own stuff there, and also patch any application that needs it. From the top of my head this would be...

Re: Too many distros
There has always been duplication of efforts. Open source only minimizes the duplication. It does however also make the duplication more obvious. I don't think the Linux community is too divided. Competition is most of the time good (even thought I don't think it matters much in open source). I howe...

Re: recorder
You might also want to consider Jokosher. It's pretty easy to use and you wont have to worry about jack and the like.

Re: KXstudio without branding and KDE
So, I ended up installing kxstudio-metapackages-audio and kxstudio-desktop-base. I don't know if it's optimal (couldn't help to get Phonon) but everything is working.

KXstudio without branding and KDE
Hello. I'd like to use KXstudio in LXDE. Is it possible to do this without installing any branding packages (Oxygen cursor, etc) and KDE parts (Phonon, etc)? I only want the jack infrastructure thing and all the nice packages. I'm not interested in changing the way my desktop looks or pulling in any...

Re: KXStudio now for Peppermint!
It's not lxde I want. It's a great low power desktop, but I'm really a gnome guy. Lubuntu is definitely not as good in my experience. Lubuntu just slaps lxde over the current Ubuntu and pretty much calls it a day. Peppermint has been well customised to be light, easy to use, and relatively more fre...

Re: A game to practice your music skills with MIDI gear
There's a Linux port of it called Linthesia. Unfortunately the Ubuntu package for it is totally broken. So I haven't tried it.raboof wrote:Pretty cool, too bad it's not available for linux. Reminded me somewhat of http://pianobooster.sourceforge.net/
Pianobooster looks pretty cool too. I'll try it out.

Re: KXStudio now for Peppermint!
Is it just LXDE that you prefer (Lubuntu would be just as good). Or is there anything special about Peppermint that you like?i2productions wrote:Always happy to assist. I still have peppermint loaded on my system.(I'm really starting to dig the peppermint+kxstudio combo!)

Re: Cool Things About Linux
One of the best things about Linux is that it's free. I disagree. The best thing about Linux is IMO that it's better. I think that people (FSF) who are promoting GNU/Linux because of it's freeness are doing more harm than good. Most people don't care the slightest about freedom. So tell people to u...
