Re: Step by Step KXStudio upgrade Mint/Ubuntu/Debian/etc.

Most popular tutorial ever in the how-to section, and it's been out-of-date for a while. New instructions should bring it into line with how it works now!

Re: Step by Step KXStudio upgrade Mint/Ubuntu/Debian/etc.

I've been on Mint 17 cinnamon since the day it came out. I've upgraded all the way to current 17.3 build and still going strong. I would guess it's not jackd2. My experience is, it either works or it doesn't, there isn't much in between. You could try going in Cadence and if you're set to 3 period/b...

Re: Reason 3.0 + Wine + wineasio = No Sound

Glad you finally got Reason 3 to work. For MIDI I've used the system "MIDI Through" in Reason to get stuff into and out of reason, and a JACK patchbay to connect everything

Re: Reason 3.0 + Wine + wineasio = No Sound

I can tell you Reason 5 works perfectly for me. What I have done is use PlayOnLinux to create a specific wine version just for Reason. I use a 32 bit wine, because, well there's no reason for it to be 64 with Reason(and 64 bit wineasio has been reported to have more issues.) I used POL to install wi...

Re: Ardour4

Amazing, simply amazing! Haven't had any crashes yet, even in sessions with 50+ tracks and busses. Sessions that loaded with errors in Ardour 3, have loaded perfectly into Ardour 4. There's not much more we can ask for out of Ardour at this point! I suppose I could say...Windows VST's, but there are...

Re: Ardour4

I believe they also now are able to run using only alsa No longer based on JACK? I may be understanding you wrong, but that was one or ardour's greatest strengths as a DAW! Edit:Went to the nightly build site, I think I understand now, JACK is optional. A benefit for windows build with so little so...

How many years has reaper been promising a modern linux version? I figured it would be out by now. Sorry for your luck mate.

Re: Raspberry Pi 2

Headless would be pretty worthless for the application I'm talking about. I want something you can control right from the instrument itself with no external input. The pi2 should have the horsepower to get the job done. I'll be ordering 1 sometime in the next month.

Re: Raspberry Pi 2

The stock Pi has horrid sound - 11 bit, I read the other day Yes, the onboard audio is totally unsuitable for pro audio work, however many USB cards work very well. In the early days of the Pi I was able to get Ardour to work with an Lexicon Omega. I wouldn't do anything crazy with it, but it could...

Raspberry Pi 2

http://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-2-model-b/ I had big dreams and high expectation for the first Rpi as a small audio DSP. All the projects that have tried this have either failed or had limited success. This new one, at the same $35 price tag might finally have the bare minimum or h...

Re: lexicon omega

I had one of these for about 3 years til it died from overuse. Never had a problem just setting JACK defaults in it and recording with all 4 simultaneously. Hell, i got it to record 4 tracks(very unstablely) on embedded linux in raspberry pi. It's definitely possible,(or at least used to be.) Can't ...

Re: Linux music as a major player...

Perhaps we should ask Clem (Mint Project leader) what his secret is. Develop the easiest to use Linux based OS for the largest number of people by listening to the people. Now that said, that's exactly what paul has done for 10 years with Ardour! We've compared how they're the same, but the thing t...

Ocean and Crickets

I took my Boss Micro BR portable 4 track for a walk on an island in coastal Maine a few years ago. I just pulled the files off it and chopped out the best short samples. These were all recorded by an active PZM microphone. For those of you that don't know, PZM's gather sound as it's reflected of a f...

Re: Can't Find My Way Home

Love your music Glen! The pinnacle of what music used to be. Give's me the feeling of something recorded in the late 70's. Really like,"My Face".
