I have just deleted /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-firewire.conf and started jack with alsa backend. The only thing I adjusted is in/out ports count in jack configuration. Working fine so far. Built in firewire on dell d630. ffado-mixer is working.

In my case jack won't start with ffado at all, but with snd-dice it works just fine. The only issue - it cannot set input and output ports automatically in cadence, I've set it manually.

Is there a reason to have snd-dice module blacklisted? It was the only reason preventing my new Firestudio Mobile to work out of the box.

I'm using kxstudio repos with Linux Mint (Cinammone for now), this is the same ubuntu distro, the only difference is in preinstalled packages.

Seems like fonts problem. Default Ubuntu font has all cyrillic letters. I'm using kxstudio repos over linux Mint, it's a russian distro and does not have problems with cyrillic fonts also.

In previous 2 posts I wanted to say - no need to switch distro if you just don't like the look. Try different DEs, I have 5-6 different DEs installed and switch them time to time when I want something new.

ah, there's no emerald in that video. gtk-window-decorator also supports transparency for window frames. But I prefer emerald, it can use any textures for frames and make transparency gradients. Mint uses cinnamon by default. There's no compiz available for this DE. It's great DE, but I prefer compiz.

Ther's no reason to search another distro if you just don't like UNITY. try kxstudio xfce. It's the same ubuntu but with lightweight and more classic DE. It's supported by ubuntu comunity and by kxstudio devs.

At work I have 3.5.0-27-lowlatency kernel working with nVidia drivers. But no kxstudio repos here.
