Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

I would say Neon, it means you'll get up to date plasma but base of 18.04 LTS. I wouldn't bother with 19 unless you really have to. Unless there's a particular feature you really really need, I agree on sticking with 18.04, any flavor. It's a solid base and LTS. The only exception would be Ubuntu S...

Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio

Hi all. I just recently managed to fix some broken hardware issues with my desktop PC and wanted to rebuild it from scratch. I wanted to start with an Ubuntu distro, possibly with KDE, but avoiding derivatives like Mint. The latest is 19.04. Is installing KXStudio via PPAs the best way to do it? Sho...

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

I like to have the bleeding edge distro, if I can, on my primary computer, but as a last resort I gues I can settle with that. Or Kubuntu 18.04 for that matter. Why not go for Neon? It is now based on ubuntu 18.04 so you have the LTS part but the KDE aspects are updated to near bleeding edge (they ...

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

Mint is basically ubuntu 18.04 with a cinnamon desktop Thanks I like to have the bleeding edge distro, if I can, on my primary computer, but as a last resort I gues I can settle with that. Or Kubuntu 18.04 for that matter. 18.04 is a long time support release if I'm not wrong so it would not lag to...

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

Oh, I seemed to pick up that there was at least a beta out. Anyway. My bet is that 18.04 is much better supported because falktx is working on releasing the iso. Personally I just use the repos because I don't care about KDE. I use Mint + kxstudio repos btw. I haven't read all the posts in the topi...

Well, if possible I'd like to use the latest Ubuntu version.

And anyway on the web site I see a link to a 14.04 iso, not 18.04...

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

I just installed a plain Kubuntu 18.10 and then added the repository following the procedure here: https://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories But something strange happens: ry to install kstudio-meta-all I get a strange error: The "kxstudio-meta-all" package could not be marked for insta...

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

I guess the RT kernel can be installed with the KXStudio repos anyway, right? Sure, but as long you don't need to record many tracks from external instruments at the same time, you likely will not need it. Start with the standard kernel of Ubuntu. If you get xruns, try a low latency kernel and if t...

Depends if you mean with or from. The answer is yes and no respectively.

Not sure I understood (not a native speaker)

How should I do to install a RT kernel?

Re: Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

Thank you very much for the answers. I want to stick with Ubuntu because, well, I know it well and it's going to be my primary (only) SO. If Ubuntu Studio could caouse conflicts I'll add the repos to standard Kubuntu and install the other programs I want later. I guess the RT kernel can be installed...

Ubuntu Studio or KUbuntu for PPA installation?

Hi. I'm about to download and install the latest Ubuntu distro, on top of which I want to install all the kxstudio packages via PPA. I'd like to go with Ubuntu Studio because of the added graphic and music software it comes with, included Jack and the real time kernel (I think). But I fear that it m...

Linux Arpeggiator

Hi guys I need a free arpeggiator program (or VST plugin) that is capable, in order of ascendant importance, of: 1) play arpeggios based on played chord following a pattern. 2) play the arpeggios of which at point 1) in a completely random sequence 3) play "intelligent" arpeggios based on ...
