Re: "Jack Beats Re-Cut"
Aside from a simple 3-piece sampled drumkit, the rest of the samples were recorded on guitar and I think some percussive soda cans also made it in here. Still plan to redo this in an extreme way because I didn't think much of EQ when I originally put this together.

"Jack Beats Re-Cut"
http://soundcloud.com/jaycapela/jack-beats-re-cut
I made this by loading my own samples into a few instances of Jackbeat, recorded some live sequences, then chopped it up in Ardour. It's a little weird but cool. I'm planning to layer more on top of this eventually.

Re: What's the best apps for producing music?
poonus, first thing you might wanna do is optimize your jackd setup, maybe bring your Frames/Period down a notch to reduce lag. Also, you might wanna try Yoshimi as an alternative to Zyn-- it's essentially the same synth but with better jack performance. I switched over because Zyn always gave me we...

Re: Linux Audio Sesssion Scripting
Thanks, wmctrl does what I was looking for. A pity that my favorite evilwm does not support the EWMH specification, but that didn't actually surprise me. Tiny size doesn't come without a prize. However, I'll try using one of the supported WMs within Xnest as soon as I find time for that. You could ...

Re: Linux Audio Sesssion Scripting
Xnest was new to me - it sounds very promising. Automatically assigning applications to workspaces would then be another great thing. It's just an idea that I have since long ago, though I never did intensive research in whether this is possible. I don't know the Reason patches but maybe I can imag...

Re: Linux Audio Sesssion Scripting
Is there a way to rename Jack clients via command-line? Qjackctl can rename clients but there's no cli tool included to accomplish this on a per-case basis, and jack_alias included in Jack2 only creates aliases of ports and can not modify client names. Renaming ports in Qjackctl does not change the...

Re: Linux Audio Sesssion Scripting
After experiencing instability issues and sessions refusing to load in Ladish, I think I'm going to fallback to the scripted approach of session management. I have one question, though... Is there a way to rename Jack clients via command-line? Qjackctl can rename clients but there's no cli tool incl...

Re: jack_session
AutoStatic, what do you use to save your jackd connections? Do you use the patchbay in qjackctl, manually enter jack_connect commands in your script file, or use something like jack_snapshot?

Re: jack_session
Lash, Ladish and now jack_session. Looks like a battle of the session managers is about to happen. Can you give us a comparision? That would be great! Even for us developers it is hard to "follow" all of these trends, especially if one doesn't use any of them :) As i understood it in the ...

Re: jack_session
Does jack_session support other apps outside of the short list they have on their wiki, or is it necessary for apps to be patched to work with jack_session? One thing I really love about Ladish is that it supports everything but the kitchen sink.

Re: "Winging It" (First track produced with my Linux setup)
If I continue working in this style, add vocals, maybe I can do something like Postal Service or Owl City, hehe. I don't have a really good mic atm, so I'd probably have to process the sound to make it fit. Postal Service = Good, typical catalyst of a new genre. Owl City = Bad, really bad, typical ...

Re: "Winging It" (First track produced with my Linux setup)
defenetly not my style of music, but if you allow: I found the mix way to bassy. at 1min4sec3 my window vibrates heavy here (lol). In a way, I was going for a rumbly bass, but I may have overdid it. Just listened to it on a different set of headphones, and I agree that it's too bassy, so much that ...

Re: "Winging It" (First track produced with my Linux setup)
Hello jaycapela, awesome track! This is exactly the stuff I currently love and listen to a lot these days, dreamy electro pop tunes. Love it! And welcome aboard of course. Best, Jeremy If I continue working in this style, add vocals, maybe I can do something like Postal Service or Owl City, hehe. I...

Re: "Winging It" (First track produced with my Linux setup)
Yoshimi's my bassist, LOL. And I was able to get some subtle dynamics out of it by adding LADSPA insert effects and automating things in Ardour.DoosC wrote:Nice one !
I really like the peaceful and soft atmosphere you managed to create.
How did you do the bass line ? With Yoshimi or Phasex ?
