Re: Slowly resigning myself to yet another reinstall...where to go?

Hi all, After many years (probably around 15) and updates, and with more things broken in each update than the last, I'm at the point of reinstalling (yet again). Ubuntu Studio appears to be edging towards being unusable, so where do I go? KXStudio appears to be dead as well. I extensively use Ardo...

Re: Slowly resigning myself to yet another reinstall...where to go?

AV Linux MX Edition 23.2 ISO! Personally I just use Arch and configure it the way I want it but AV Linux MX seems to be a great choice judging by the users here. And no, I'm nowhere close to knowing what I'm doing but Arch Wiki is pretty good for step by step setup. KXStudio near dead?? Seriously? ...

Re: Slowly resigning myself to yet another reinstall...where to go?

I kind of need the realtime kernel as well, I guess. I tried to set all this up once, a long time ago, with vanilla.Ubuntu and kept getting xruns. I'm really very comfortable with Ubuntu Studio, having used it since it's inception, but it just seems to be becoming more and more unusable with each re...

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Ok. Restarted again.

Added Yoshimi and changed it to an organ sound. It was perfectly in tune.

Walked about for 20 minutes.

It's now nearly a semitone out.

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

I just rebooted, and went to show my other half the issue. Added a new instance of Calf Organ to Carla - showed her the tuner showing a perfect G. A few seconds later, and with doing nothing at all, it's closer to a G#. I closed it all down, and started again. I added the BBC Samples (VST2) to Carla...

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Hi, yes. If I create a new session, then immediately, all midi instruments are out of tune. Oddly, if I then add a new instrument to Carla, then wire it up in the Jack patchbay...I'll get no input or output. It's truly bizarre. If I open a previous session, then the instruments that are already set ...

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Ok. It appears to be Ardour. I can add Calf Organ (or others) to Carla...and the pitch is correct. The moment I open Ardour, the pitch rises by nearly a semitone. Closing Ardour doesn't return it to proper pitch. Everything is set to 48kHz. Baffled...and now deeper into the rabbit hole. As an aside....

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Ah, I spoke too soon.

Just added Yoshimi as a midi instrument, and it's nearly a semitone out - the sample rates of both Ardour and Alsa (in Yoshimi), are 48kHz...and yet the problem persists.

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Thank you. I've set the default in Jack to 48kHz and that seems to have fixed it.

Truly appreciated, I thought I was going to go down a deep rabbit hole trying to find the answer.

Re: All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Hi, thank you. I think that's it. I just changed the default in Jack to 48kHz...and then opened up Calf Organ in Carla...and it was at the correct pitch. I then opened Ardour, and added a new midi track (This time the BBC orchestra VST)...and I could actually hear the pitch of the Calf Organ change ...

All midi instruments are out of tune....?

Hi all, Not sure which forum to post this in, so please move if needs be. I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Ubuntu Studio, I then purchased an M-Audio Axiom 61 midi controller, which was recognised straight away. The problem is, that no matter which midi instrument I assign it to, it's...

Re: What's everyone using to sequence drums?

@Michael Willis Thank you very much. I'll give that a go.

I do still prefer the layout and interface of Hydrogen, but something just isn't right with the synching. Everything feels ever so slightly out of time.

Re: What's everyone using to sequence drums?

I'm finding it difficult to actually pinpoint the issue at the moment mind you. Sometimes it's fine, other times it's not. I'd need to be able to give definite steps to recreate it.

Re: What's everyone using to sequence drums?

You could also drive H2 via midi, that way you won't depend on Jack Transport for synchronization. If Ardour packs a midi drum pattern editor that could be an option.. Hi, cheers. I have tried that in the past, and whilst it does have a midi editor, I find it quite awful to use, and much prefer the...
