Never heard of her... but just listened to "Soft Revolution". Very nice! Thanks for the tip!

Re: Why does giving your music as a gift feel awkward? Should it?
I think that there can be no higher honor for a person than to receive a custom-made song that speaks to something unique within them. To know that you were the source of inspiration for a work of art is rare gift indeed. Most people will never know how that feels. Anyone who is not humbled by such ...

Re: Hi there musicans
Hi Luis, I'm in a similar situation. I put my guitar down for many years, and I feel a bit like Rip VanWinkle. All the technology and techniques we employed back in the early 90s are all but dead. I picked up on Linux in 1999, and it has been my OS of choice ever since. I've recently started buildin...

Re: Guitar amps and effects suite.
Hi, I'm kind of new to comptuer based recording, so please pardon me if this question is a stupid one. I was looking at (and listening to) the audio-assualt site. It looks/sounds amazing, and I'm interested... but, I only see plugins and extensions.... So what do we plug them into and extend? Guitar...

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
OK. I have re-installed that Graphics card, and installed the proprietary drivers... Lo and behold, it works! I'm at a sample rate of 48000@32/3. That is 2ms latency, without any xruns, after recording about 10-15 minutes of guitar-putzing (going through guitarix and into ardour). Thank you for the ...

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
Thank everyone. I'm going to give it another go with the proprietary drivers when I get some time (hopefully today). I'll post back with the results.

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
That is interesting. I thought I was playing it safe by sticking with Nouveau. Perhaps I should try the PPA. I'm not sure what version that card likes, I'll have to look around. I'll give that a shot. I'm using the low-latency. I think it is 5.4.x. Whatever is most current in Neon/Ubuntu. Thanks. G

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
After much hardware shuffling, I found the problem. It does not like my graphics card. I have an Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 PCI-E 256MB GDDR3 Dual Port graphics card in there. It did not like it one bit. With that out of the picture (using the onboard cpu GPU), I can get to 2ms without any xruns. That cr...

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
I keep scouring the Internet for insight on this.... I've disabled all the fancies from my bios, including the wifi adapter and the two gigabit nics. I truned off hyperthreading and any sort of power management or CPU scaling. I'm now wondering if, perhaps, the M.2 hard drives I have in this system ...

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
Well, I tried every permutation on the link I had in the post above. By far, the best results are what I mentioned before 256/2@4800 -- but I still get a few Xruns. Even though it is not a multiple of 1 and 2, guitarix seemed to tolerate it just fine. Everything gives me xruns up to 256/3@4800. I we...

Re: New Hardware - Need some perspective
3 periods/buffer is recommended for usb audio gear hmm... I do see that there is precedent for this notion... I have tried it, and it seemed to fare worse, not better... but I guess I will dabble with it some more now that I know you do not need to use the qjackctl drop-downs. I did find this page:...

How fast is fast enough?
How much latency should be tolerated on a linux-based music studio PC? At what point does it become a problem?
What are your jack settings and their corresponding latency? How is it working for you?

Re: Running Wild
Very nicely done. It is solid.
I think you could call this done. Any opinions I'd tender at this point would only tailor the song more to my tastes... which wouldn't necessarily imply any objective improvement
Kudos!
