Gah, I recently attempted the guide above (which is really well put together and easy to follow), but when I compile my kernel, I don't end up with a .deb file.
Kernel compilation is so far beyond me.

Re: Trackers
On the subject of trackers, here's a recent CDM post following a Renoise/Indamixx competition:

Re: Greetings and Thanks from AV Linux
I switched primarily because I tried it in the midst of a serious distrohopping binge. Also, my wireless card hates Debian based systems (that's more of a matter of laziness on my part), and I'm not huge on the aesthetics of AV Linux, I prefer a Fluxbox window manager to the WinXP style LXDE if I ne...

Re: Greetings and Thanks from AV Linux
Welcome GMaq,
I've used AV Linux in the past, it's a great distro that I'll likely be returning to in the near future. We've got a great little community here, it's good to have you.

Re: M-Audio FastTrack Ultra and Jack/ALSA
Very interesting, I can't help you ATM since I've yet to recompile my kernel with the code -- I'm away at college, I've only one computer and Arch seems to be running flawlessly, I'd be screwed if I messed up my system right now. But keep us informed!

Re: HI from York, UK.
I was curious about your nickname "dArAzAc" Ah, well I just have a curious habit of finding patterns in things. It's from my real name (Dar Austin Zaccaro) I like use the A's that are spaced out one character apart when using my middle initial which leaves me with a pattern of 3 triangles...

Re: HI from York, UK.
Your avatar has a left handed bass on it if I'm not mistaken, I assume that you play it?

Re: Trackers
A tracker is primarily a sample based sequencer (although most handle midi as well). If you've ever seen What the Future Sounded Like , they use mostly trackers. Trackers handle much differently than most popular DAW's now-days. They have an interesting workflow-- with a vertically scrolling hexadec...

That could be very cool, finally I could get some experience with Ardour as my interface is currently down (proprietary hell).

It's a shame that most people generally frown upon Open-Source. The masses have always been extremely ignorant. I blame television

Ugress
I just have to promote this guy, his songs have so much soul for an electronic musician. I was reading an interview a while ago, I remember him describing his live set as having ~3 computers and using an internet connection (?!) which he said was "just begging for problems". Free to listen...

Trackers
The only tracker that I'm aware of for Linux is Renoise, but it isn't open source (although affordable and community driven). I'm sure there are many, so lets discuss some open-source Linux-native trackers.
