I can load scores, but I haven't really gotten any recognizable audio from it yet ;).

Re: Anyone able to build Algoscore recently?

I did some more digging. Seems AlgoScore at some point lived at sourceforge, then moved to Gna. Gna is discontinued, but I was able to recover some slightly newer sources and history from the dump at https://archive.org/details/Gna_code_hosting. Converted them to git and shared them at https://githu...

Re: Freeware alternative for SynthEdit?

I guess it is interesting to answer the question why pd-extended got abandoned. Was it because there was no interest anymore since people just left? I almost can't imagine it. I don't know either but Pd is a small project by one man I think and Pd-extended might have been developed and maintained b...

Re: Freeware alternative for SynthEdit?

Pd Vanilla was nowhere near as popular as Pd-extended. Back in the day they didn't bother to make a patch and all the extensions it needs in one, because all the extensions were already in Pd-extendend. This is of course true. I guess it is interesting to answer the question why pd-extended got aba...

Re: Freeware alternative for SynthEdit?

This means that you do not know if the patches that you made, that have cost you blood sweat and tears, will still work in a year or two time. At the time people loved Pd-extended, just like you love Purrdata. Well, the patches that they made in Pd-extended do not work anymore. Did you create any s...

Re: Anyone able to build Algoscore recently?

Hi there, I had a full spare afternoon and I attacked the problem of building Algoscore again. My driver is just "curiosity". I finally was been able to build it with some editing of Cmake stuff (read: nightmare). In practise I disabled the CSound output (the program is strictly "lin...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

I can run heckbench to bring the CPU load to 90% and I don´t get any xruns, but just opening the bowser causes xruns while the CPU is shortly increasing to 80% or so. I think someone already mentioned perhaps this may be related to your video driver or video acceleration, or perhaps networking stac...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

cpu governor performance does not need to be the best solution. performance sets the cpu to the highest turbo-boost speed. Being turbo-boost, this is a clock speed that the cpu cannot hold for a longer time. Thanks a lot for your research in https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=19865...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

if anything with RT priority is running in the backgound (e.g. reaper) it can occur much earlier. Is the jack processing thread still running with a higher real-time priority than any reaper threads? (I guess something like "ps ax -T --format uname, pid, lwp, ppid, pri, rtprio, cmd" should help...

Re: planet.linuxaudio mention in "Linux Music News"?

Why is http://planet.linuxaudio.org/ (why not http s ?) not listed in the category Linux Music News mentioned? I think that's a great idea. I'll add it. why not http s ? https://planet.linuxaudio.org does exist, but it suffers from 'mixed (insecure) display content' problems. Given this problem, do...

Could some knowledgeable people weigh in on what should and should not be posted to "Linux Music News - Discuss anything new and newsworthy!"? It appears that there are some unwritten/understood rules regarding what should or should not be posted there. For example, I get the idea that co...

Re: Cut Through Recordings Plug-ins available in LV2 Format

I'd say either 'Linux Music News', 'Plugins, Effects and Instruments' or 'Marketplace' are good places for this topic.

Perhaps we should get rid of 'Linux Music News' - anything posted there probably has a more accurate subforum available.

Moving this one to 'Plugins, Effects and Instruments'

Re: The Everything Songwriting Book: Can Lyrics Be Skipped?

some of what you learn about vocals could be applied to instrumental music as well. The "hole" that is left by not having vocals is often filled with a lead synth, guitar or other instrument of a similar frequency range as the human voice. I tend to agree: I'm not familiar with this parti...
