Re: Traction F-em plugin problems

Not just me, then. I've had stability issues with it from the start, where after every other upgrade it'll crash with some GUI issue. Sandboxing made no difference. I put it down to hardcoded assumptions about where some libraries are located, because I use NixOS. This may not be the problem after a...

Re: RME Fireface UFX III

It's not the first time, by any means.

They don't make much noise about it, but any of their class-compliant USB devices work on Linux. Like the Babyface, for example. Their Hammerfall PCI cards also work well, IIRC. There's even a Linux forum on the RMI community site.

Re: NixOS and music: Experiences?

That's just weird. I'm using qjackctl and jackd, and the worst ongoing problem I have is that I have to manually use `kill -9 <pid>` to get jackd to actually stop running. I've yet to encounter jackdmp. Interesting, so you *do* kill it. Is that a normal part of your workflow or something exceptiona...

Re: NixOS and music: Experiences?

Bump Has there been anymore progress made on any of this? How are we doing? Progress on what, in particular? Do you have some expectation that somebody's working on a specific task for you? Oh, no. Certainly not. I didn't mean to give that impression. I just wondered if anyone, anywhere was current...

Bump Has there been anymore progress made on any of this? How are we doing? Progress on what, in particular? Do you have some expectation that somebody's working on a specific task for you? Personally, I've backed away from Pipewire for the moment, because it's not quite there yet for my purposes, ...

Re: Dreams of Seagulls - Call Me

Thanks a lot for listening and commenting! Yeah, the early 80s is not very well spoken of, but a lot of great stuff was made around that time. It was a formative time for me, so its connotations are mostly good here :) Slightly off-topic, but your location got my attention. Are you familiar with Pa...

Re: Dreams of Seagulls - Call Me

Quite lovely! Nicely reminiscent of the early '80s, too.

Slightly off-topic, but your location got my attention. Are you familiar with Patrick G, who records and performs as eleKtroFish?

Re: The queen is dead (synthetic orchestral piece)

I agree with @milo - it takes on a very Wendy Carlos vibe.
My expectation was that it's not my kind of thing, but hey, I'll take a moment to check it out... and then I really liked it :)

Re: The Roswell Incident

Late to the party, but I like this one a lot.
The fadeout-and-revive bit in the middle is particularly effective.

Just starting to get to grips with Renoise, so this is quite inspiring.

Re: NixOS and music: Experiences?

Has anyone made any progress with this? I'm dedicating a separate box and diving in again. I'm using Pipewire now, and it's working pretty well. The one fly in my ointment is that Ardour isn't connecting to the JACK dummy server, so I can't run Renoise or LMMS directly into it. I can work around it...

Re: RME Firefire series on Linux

The biggest thing, at least for me, is getting Totalmix Fx for Linux, or some workable alternative to it. I need it mainly for doing headphone mixes and low latency monitoring. I often wonder if any community would be willing to make software that would make these features available to all Linux us...

Re: RME Firefire series on Linux

Would it help if we Linux people go to the RME forum to write feedback. "We Linux audio users most politely ask that you take us seriously and start supporting Linux in your products. Thank you."  We've done that. There's even a Linux subforum on the RME site - they're more s...

Re: Using Linux for live gig work - how many would trust it?

It's stable enough for billion-dollar enterprises to rely on; it should hold up just fine :) If anything's likely to get flakey, it'll be hardware related, especially around cables and sockets. What billion dollar thing uses windows plugins with wine? I meant Linux, not the part about Windows plugi...

Re: Ardour functionality or plugin to synchronize recordings

My (hopefully redundant) advice is to forget the fifth mic and second interface, until you're 100% confident that you've nailed the four-mic setup. If/when you're good to go and have time to kill, then worry about trying to add those. Can you get hold of a second computer for the additional interfac...
