Re: Let's Cruise (surf)

When I read "(surf)", I was wondering if it would have a spring reverb. It sounds like there is no spring reverb, but that's fine. When creating these patches on my Line 6 POD HD500X, I initially reached for a '63 spring reverb (but of course!). For whatever reason, it wasn't quite doing ...

Let's Cruise (surf)

First time I've written a surf rock piece. Wrote and recorded this little piece today. Trying to get the hang of it :) https://soundcloud.com/modusjonens/lets-cruise Had some fun putting together surf-type guitar tones and trying out a new (to me) drumkit: the GMkit. As per usual, I played my "...

Re: I'll be back for you (instrumental version)

Gosh, I feel like a real idiot... I really didn't know about the Mixer in Hydrogen I say there's no reason to feel bad -- we're all here to learn! I must have been using Hydrogen for a few months before I even realized the mixer was even an available tool! I really ought to have read the docs more ...

Re: I'll be back for you (instrumental version)

Cool track! I also enjoy writing metal and using Ardour/Hydrogen :) The intro idea of the "low-fi riff that then becomes the real thing" has been probably done a thousand times, but I always liked the effect, for instance in "Of sins and shadows" by Symphony X This trick gets me ...

Re: solo ambient guitar

Thanks for the kind words, all! Reminds me of Robin Guthrie's ambient work, very very good! I hadn't heard of Robin Guthrie before -- I'll have to check that name out. Thanks! Are you willing to share info about your setup? Certainly. I'm using a Line 6 Pod HD500x directly into Ardour (on Ubuntu 18....

Re: do not pursue (instrumental metal/video game music)

@tavasti: thank you! I think you are right about the mix dryness. I added reverb to the whole mix and made some minor level adjustments just to see what it'd be like to compare the two versions. I may have overdone it a bit, but sometimes you need to go too far to know how far to go. Here's the &quo...

do not pursue (instrumental metal/video game music)

Some college buddies and I used to play Dynasty Warriors 3/4 back in the early 2000s to blow off steam (or simply procrastinate). After all these years, I still like the games (even the bizarre voice actiing ). I especially enjoy its guitar-driven soundtrack, and wanted to pay tribute by doing a sho...

Re: "space"

I really dig this! There's something about this that brings Paul Masvidal to mind. Perhaps the combination of your phrasing and the effects on the guitar. I look forward to hearing more!

Re: liftoff (instrumental metal)

Ok, for some feedback: I really like the guitar sound and I don't find the hiss disturbing. Did you do a bit of Low Pass filtering? I have heard real tracks which have more hiss (e.g. I have the original tracks and producer packs of some Periphery songs and on some tracks there is more hiss than th...

Re: Jonestown

Great sounds in this one. I liked the panning effect on what I think of as the "hi-hat" (the sounds that come in around 0:24). Also, just generally, I'm curious what instruments/plugins you used here. I haven't tried Renoise myself, but I might have to check it out for some more electronic...
