Re: Studio One - Linux version
Linux is a viable market. I sincerely doubt this. How many musicians/producers would there be who use Linux in a professional capacity? For amateurs such as me there's more than enough quality and variety to be found among extant linux DAWs already, free and commercial. Linux is a viable OS, but fa...

Re: Change to Linux - "ILok", "eLicenser" USB pens.
Many thanks to all of you, for taking the time. Nice suggestions and considerations. I guess I'm stuck with Windows 7 for music production, but hey, I did install "Linux Mint" in this PC (I'm on it right now) and I'm appreciating Linux a lot more than I do Windows. Linux is faster, respon...

Re: organs for linux.
I'll just put this here, for completeness' sake. https://www.modartt.com/organteq Modelled organs, by the creators of Pianoteq. I'm still using Bristol, but also amsynth and setbfree are excellent. I also have some Arturia stuff I got free with my BSP on a windows laptop, Labs V or something like t...

Re: AI-powered plugins for music composition
Echoing others, I use Laras all the time. When I want to write but have no idea? Fire up Laras and play around for a while. Other things I've used to kick off ideas for both jams and songs. Random Number Generators or dice Playing an existing melody backwards Recording 4 hrs of noodling and then lis...

Re: Notation editor that supports piano tabs?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klavarskribo?wprov=sfla1 Might be even better. Oh. My. God! That is intense. I managed to sort of play along in my head to a few pieces "music" but wow, it's really not giving me a visual of a keyboard. :?:   I also have never heard of pia...

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?
Mixbus 8 for me. It's Ardour with extras. I particularly like the bus and channel EQ/Compression/etc features, but with a little bit of template building, you can get the same thing as Mixbus give or take. I really like being able to work on EQ without popout windows. I use it on a Linux system at h...

Re: a short question about .nki
Dave Healey got most of it. Yeah, sure, but what about banjo samples? I once looked at a banjo and now I'm O-fended! Because you exclude banjo like the elitist you clearly are, judging by the use of underscores in your username and the fact that YOU DIDN'T EVEN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BANJO SAMPLES! And...

Re: Linux Based Midi Clip Launchers
I know this is hella late, but I use Luppp. It's basically clip mode Ableton, but it looks good and you can design your own midi bindings for any devices you have to use as triggers.

Re: JACK - best distribution?
In my case, Mint 20, I use the XFCE version, but I've been on mint since 16 and never had any issues with Jack with PreSonus USB96, Behringer UMC404HD v1, MAudio Quattro. As with others, I use qjackctl to manage jack, and I use Raysession as a session manager. I installed Ubuntu Studio for a friend ...

Re: kxstudio dependency problems
I've had a very easy time of it using Mint with KXStudio and GitHub versions of anything I want the latest version of. Currently running Mint XFCE 20.3, but I have Mint XFCE 19.2 on my laptop and have had no issues at all. I recently moved to Harrison Mixbus 8 for my home studio, but have previously...

Re: Jack troubleshooting
Can you tell us the audio device (brand, model and version of you can) you're using, and also a screenshot of the jack configuration you're trying to use, preferably from qjackctl. Also, go and grab realtimeconfigquickscan (or rather, it's most recent version rtcqs), run the script and follow it's a...

Re: What session managers do people prefer?
I'm 100% commited to Raysession. I found it immediately intuitive and easy to set up templates etc, and now I have hundreds of sessions, since I use it as the basis of all of my work, including ardour/Mixbus. I used to use NSM when it was Non. I don't think there's anything wrong with NSM particular...

Re: Plugin window resize possible in Ardour but not Carla
I use LSP tools native in the DAW. Heaps easier and resizable. X42 makes a good one too. Unless there's a reason you need to specifically use a spectrum analyser in Carla? But also, native is always best imo&e
Also, they should be resizable in Carla anyway.
