Re: SSL and Harrison consoles

I don't know if it's related, but from now on all XT plugins are priced the same at 105,99€... which is quite ludicrous when you come to think of it.
A simple Micro Glide is a hundred bucks, same price as their brand new Console Compressor :?

Re: Mixbus 6 is out

I love this new version, and quite surprisingly, the track I've been working on with Mixbus 5 for the last couple of months sounds way better with Mixbus 6! The sound is fuller and brings the lower-end forward without losing that touch of "air saturation" I love. I even had to lower that 1...

Re: Stereo widening

There are Mid/Side processing plugins in the eq10q suite, though I never got to experiment with them. The EQ is M/S aware, too. There is also the Fairchild reproduction from overtoneDSP which offers a lat/vert mode. Although it was meant for vynil cutting, it can achieve good results for widening to...

Re: Combined low-/high cut lv2 plugin

Modern production - or digital, for what it's worth - allows us to have deeper lows and clearer high ends, but at the same time, you need to have tight control over these aspects, or you will end up with a harsh sound (often associated with digital) or with a very heavy low-end, which means less pre...

Re: Guitarists, share your virtual chain

I think having a guitar preamp pedal with balanced out connected to your interface + some great cab IRs would be your best option.
Also, what interface do you use?

You could also try Nekobi from DISTRHO-ports, which is a 303-based synth.

Re: The ocean of EQs

Maybe in these cases a simple EQ is not the right tool. You might need something dynamically like a de-esser or a multiband compressor. Or you may edit a part of an audio clip offline because only one syllable needs processing. Agreed. But it didn't call for a multiband compressor, I can't really e...

Re: Elec Guitar recording, how 2 effects??

In the past I enjoyed doing both of them at the very same time. Guitar output -> split the signal in 2 with a buffer -> here we now have identical 2 signals: 1 and 2. Connect 1 to the analog chain which terminates with the amp, mic the amp, connect the mic to one input of the soundcard. Connect 2 t...

Re: When you release your music, do you credit Linux?

Personnaly I don't write it on the back of the booklet, because I'm not into the whole endorsement/sponsoring thing. I much prefer to thank my dear old friends, that kind of stuff. But on another hand, I will notify it's been produced on Linux on the internet, and post links on Ardour/Mixbus forums....

Re: Elec Guitar recording, how 2 effects??

I think it mostly comes down to what sounds better. Most of the time, pedals are inferior to dedicated studio hardware or plugins, but they may have a sound that your like and that you may want to capture.

And the other thing, could it be those others than Harrison, maybe? It's part of the excellent zam-plugins by Damien Zammit, which are available both as source code and binaries: https://github.com/zamaudio/zam-plugins http://zamaudio.com/ (down at the time of writing) You may also get them in your...

Re: The ocean of EQs

And my main vision is that a sound (both synth and recording) at base needs to be good. I completely agree. The problem is that you can't always afford to re-take the troublesome parts, so having a tool that's able to save the day is always a good thing. I don't think having a great variety of plug...

Re: The ocean of EQs

Why a quest for something you already have available? Because there are several differences between DSPs that may have a great impact on the end result. The fact that the Calf EQ is very versatile is great (and it surely is, it matches the feature-level of many commercial plugins), but on some tune...
