Re: Would a low-latency kernel make a difference?
So it might be that with a vanilla kernel you can have 256 pages buffer size, no dropouts, and with a rt-kernel , 128 pages buffer size. But if you leave your other settings as they are, you wil have exactly the same latency with a rt-kernel as with a vanilla kernel. You might be underestimating my...

Re: Would a low-latency kernel make a difference?
Probably noone will be able to tell in advance if it will make a difference for you. Also, you won't notice a difference when using a realtime kernel without making further adjustments. Most people here use Jack, and try out different buffer sizes and then use the lowest buffer size which doesn't gi...

Re: Pipewire and compiling software with Jack dependency
The files that are needed for development, but not needed for normal usage, are the header files, for instance /usr/include/jack/jack.h On Arch, they are both included in the "normal" jack package as well as in the pipewire-jack package. I don't know for ubuntu-based distros, but you can l...

Re: Presonus Studio 1810c - compatability with Linux
Hi, I've googled a bit and found that the Presonus 1810c is class compliant, so it should work with linux. But I can't answer your questions first hand. I have the Behringer UMC 1820, which has even more outputs and works perfectly with linux. It's bigger than the Presonus, but it can be mounted in ...

Re: Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only
I looked this up. The "lower value means higher priority" is for normal processes only, not for realtime.

Re: Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only
Lower numbers mean higher priority. Priority values are inverted: lower p->prio value means higher priority. Source: http://lxr.linux.no/linux+v3.2.5/include/linux/sched.h#L1580 There are other sources who say the opposite: https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=11549 Also, on the Arch wiki, it...

Re: Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only
Yes, thank you, I've done that. My only problem was that in none of those howtos they say "be sure to check the advanced tab in qjackctl and set the realtime priority there". The "default" was 10 or something like this, and there were other processes shown with ps that had way hi...

Re: Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only
Ok, probably I was being stupid for years. I followed instructions like those: https://jackaudio.org/faq/linux_rt_config.html And, of course, used the script to check my settings (all ok), but overlooked that there is a dedicated setting in QJackCtrl where you can set the realtime priority. This is ...

Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only
Hi, after some break from linuxaudio (because of other projects), I took it up again and set up a new machine for realtime usage. After adding my user to the realtime group (I'm on Arch, audio group on other platforms), I wondered if the all processes started by that user would have that higher prio...

Sound on HDMI
Hi, sorry, this is a general LInux sound question, but I tought that here are the experienced people! I need to get sound on HDMI. Those are my cards: [ag@agantergos ~]$ aplay -l **** Liste der Hardware-Geräte (PLAYBACK) **** Karte 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], Gerät 0: ALC257 Analog [ALC257 Analog] Sub-G...

QTractor merge mono audio clips
Hi, if I merge two parts of a mono audio clip, I get a stereo audio clip. I'd like my clips to stay mono - am I doing something wrong, or is that a bug? Steps to reproduce: Select two parts (audio, mono) , select clip - merge, the clips are then merged together, but it's a stereo clip afterwards. Ch...

Re: MIDI footswitch for luppp
Thank you,
I had also thought about the Behringer, but didn't quite know if it goes well with Luppp. I could also use that together with Guitarix.
Thanks!
Andreas

Re: QTractor audio ghost copies for pre-arranged looping
Thank you for your reply, no, it's not exactly recording overdubs, but almost. It's like this: You begin, for instance, with a bass Part A, then A is repeated another 3 times, then muted, then repeated another 4 times: A A A A _ _ _ _ A A A A So you have a loop, but also the possibility to mute that...

MIDI footswitch for luppp
Hi, can someone recommend me a footswitch for looping with luppp? I've made first experiments, but it's quite hard to hit a number on a keyboard while playing guitar ... I'd like to be able to press, for instance, switches to start/stop recording on channel 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, and maybe also the possibil...
