Sustain pedal and carla plugins
I can't figure out why my sus pedal doesn't work with windows vst plugins run by carla. I connect the midi keyboard via a2j to the plugins FM8 or Elektrik Piano but it seems no CC sustain pedal (64) message is received. When I connect the same input to gmidimonitor, I can see that it receives the me...

Re: Harp Sonata in Mode Farahfaza
Here is a post of how I re-tune midi. I don't know if you'll like my method. At the beginning we need some patience to create a midi fragment containing a sysex message for each tuning we need. But after you have the fragments you need it's very easy and straight forward. You just paste a tuning me...

Re: Harp Sonata in Mode Farahfaza
I'm also happy to see the development of this post. :D Today most people call "microtonal" any kind of music that is not tuned to 12-tone equal temperament, common in western music and instruments. I, personally, disagree with this, because it gives the impressions that the 12-tone ET sys...

Re: Harp Sonata in Mode Farahfaza
I just imagine what greater works Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and others would if their culture had adopted 24 tones and hundreds of different modes... That's the idea that makes me start to cross cultural boundaries, even though I'm not a great composer like them. :) I guess that has to do with the wa...

Re: Harp Sonata in Mode Farahfaza
Thank you for the detailed and technical explanation. You mentioned an issue that was one of the hardest ones for me to solve when I was preparing my audio collection for the site Makam Music - Beauty and Diversity in the link I posted above. The third in nihavent jins! According to your suggestion...

Re: Harp Sonata in Mode Farahfaza
The microtonal notes came to me as a surprise as well, though i've quite a bit maqam trained ear and maqam training in music school. I'm thinking the reason may be that the other notes on the scale are tuned to equal temperament. The differences in fequencies between just intonation and equal temper...

Re: Descent Title Song recorded with Yamaha QS300
Very interesting, and nice work. I've got a QS300, but have actually made very little use of it  Thanks folderol. But it wasn't a heavy toil job to be honest :D I always use my QS300 for dos games via dosbox. I connect dosbox to midi through port 0 of alsa and using a2jmidid connect the game ...

Re: Descent Title Song recorded with Yamaha QS300
...I was browsing the sonic capabilities of my QS300 synth/workstation and decided to make a recording of it. Where did you get the MIDI file? Did you have to make any adjustments in Qtractor? I once did a re-voicing of a Descent level and found the MIDI files needed quite a bit a tweaking. Some of...

Re: Catia and easier stereo connections
Yes, that's how it works, I'm afraid. In Carla, too. I wish we could just drag and drop a block (a plugin) onto a couple of cables and have it inserted in-between the already established connections automagically. Maybe one day... I think clicking with a key combination (perhaps SHIFT + click) and ...

Catia and easier stereo connections
Hey there. I can't find a way to make easier JACK connections on my system. For example, I connect the stereo output of a plugin to system out one by one (left and right) and then decide to insert an effects plugin to the signal line. I disable the connections one by one and redo them one by one aga...

Descent Title Song recorded with Yamaha QS300
After fixing the tactile buttons problem I was browsing the sonic capabilities of my QS300 synth/workstation and decided to make a recording of it. Qtractor played the MIDI parts perfectly and QS300's sound was recorded by Ardour. Then added a bit compressor to boost levels. https://www.youtube.com/...

Re: Kernel 4.13 scheduler changes
Liquorix kernel has better performance on my machine than the rt patch applied ones. Small changes to vanilla kernel tree won't affect me anyway i guess and I'm not sure I'd need to return to rt kernels in the future.

Kernel 4.13 scheduler changes
This pull request by Ingo Molnar to 4.13 references rt and brings changes to the sound architecture. Can anyone inform us what this means?

Re: Analog mixer for Linux-Ardour
All of mackie's new vlz4 line of mixers have onyx preamps on them, no matter what the size. So if you don't need a lot of channels or you need the space on your desk, 402 vlz4 may be a good choice. It can drive my beyerdynamic dt770pro 250ohm cans easily and the preamps are of a high order.
