Re: Linux PC Builds for Audio Production. Recommended Hardware

I built a fairly compact (Mini-ITX) PC for myself last year in October, and documented it on my blog at https://wolfgang.lonien.de/2022/10/a-new-pc-build-just-in-time/ A few photos are missing because I quit my Flickr Pro subscription since then, but you'll still see all the parts. And it does have ...

Re: Bookworm

Hello Alain, as far as I remember, all I did was to make sure that pipewire-jack and also qpwgraph are installed: wjl@handa-6:~$ dpkg -l pipe* Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Stat...

Re: My new Fazioli, Steinway, and Yamaha SFZs

Cool, thanks! I had the originals already, but I'm just downloading your Fazioli for my daughter - she's the pianist in the family - to try out.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Re: Continuing the jack/pipewire debate...

Hmmm dunno... I transitioned to Debian Bookworm and its standard pipewire without problems, maybe because I saw it coming and played around with Arch some months ago? When I start Ardour with: PIPEWIRE_LATENCY=128/48000 pw-jack ardour it runs just fine. But maybe that's just me; I don't often use mo...

Maybe they buy out Ardour too.

That's the good thing about FOSS (Libre Software): since these aren't companies, you can't buy them. And even if a sole headmaster decides that the code would be his, and sells it, just fork it. No need to panic...

Re: Transition from Windows10 to Linux OS (as a normal, and as a musician/sound tech)

Yeah, pretty much what the others said already - I gave up on emulating a Windows environment when dealing with realtime stuff like music. So for me it's Ardour, there's also Qtractor for people who prefer that, and of the commercial ones I remember out of my head, there's Reaper or Bitwig (which is...

Re: Looking for advice on IEMs

Well for under 100$/€ you might get the Sennheiser IE100, have seen them in a local music store, but haven't tried them. The website TechPowerUp has some reviews from time to time, I'd recommend to read this for instance: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/moondrop-aria-2021-in-ear-monitors/ https:/...

Re: Hi, I'm an amateur musician and longtime linux user from Germany :)

Hi and welcome tjarx :) and same here: longtime Linux user, musicianship amateur(ish) at best, used to run a triple boot setup on my old machine with Arch & Pipewire (for the fun), Debian stable (for the sane 'work' environment), and Windows 10 (for all that stuff which requires an OS like that)...

Re: linuxdaw.org - listing quality audio software for linux

Nice. Reminded me a bit of the old "Libre Music Production", before that one was abandoned and turned into "Libre Arts". Your "no cost" switch still makes no difference between free as in libre and as in beer... also, Ardour, the compiled version isn't free in your defi...

Re: What place does music hold in your life?

It has always been there... For me as a kid, the dream was to get a piano - which of course my parents couldn't afford. So later it was "bought a guitar to punish your ma", and so on. I was lucky to be in good bands as a teenager, and in the studios before I turned 20. Don't know if it's c...
