Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

Then fell at the starting blocks. When I connect tascam to my laptop the only light that comes on is the phantom power light if I switch it on. There is a light for the USB cable/connection (& MIDI i/o) but it stays off. If I connect the K-station to it with MIDI i/o still nothing. Opening gnom...

Killer Joe

I recorded the lunch-time jazz band again. This time we had a new trombonist show up, which helped fill out the lows from the wind section. I dare say that my recording technique is improving, the mic placement seemed way better this time.

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

Gnome it is then, thanks. Tascam arrived this morning so I'll fiddle about over the weekend. Good luck, let us know how it goes. To be honest I don't think you'll need the alsamixer to set the sample rate. With any interface I've used, I have been able to pick the sample rate in Ardour or when I la...

Re: Strong WLAN Stick 100% Linux compatible and Distro recommendation

I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079XWMEI I don't know much about wifi performance, but I didn't have any trouble getting it to work on Linux; I only had to installed it and turn on the computer. I have no use for it anymore and it hardly cost anything, so if by chance you li...

Re: Primer on kernels. distro and repos

Totally off-topic, but your location of "Might be moving to Montana soon" caught my eye. Just a few weeks ago I took my family on a road trip, part of which involved visited some friends in Montana. There were some great things to see there; best of luck on your possible impending relocati...

Re: Eurydice

Does this mean you're using Ardour itself to write the MIDI parts, though? Or did you find a better workflow to just use Ardour as the "renderer"? Yes, I use Ardour to capture and edit midi tracks. I know a lot of people don't like Ardour's midi features, but I'm a strange outlier that pr...

Re: Need a good way to do this

By "pedals", do you mean physical hardware pedals, or are you using audio effects software plugins? If you are using hardware, I suggest taking a photograph of the gear when you have dialed in a combination of settings that you like. If you are using plugins, you can save your Ardour sessi...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 Doesn't work

Which generation is the Scarlett device? How are you starting JACK? What is the output of lsusb? I'm using a first-generation Scarlett 2i4. It shows up as a USB device in qjackctl and cadence, either of which can successfully start JACK. When I run lsusb, I see the following line in the output: Bus ...

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

So I need to download this ? It depends on the interface. Some have features controlled by software, others are controlled only by the hardware dials and switches. I use Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, and have never used alsamixer. Because it doesn't have a software controllable hardware mixer :) Yes, tha...

Ah, so that is why your avatar is Tchaikovsky! I've been wondering about that for a while. Exactly! My favourite composer of all times without any doubts... I can already tell we're going to be great friends. I have his book about harmony as a reference. I'd definitely love to learn more about the ...

Late Romantic Symphonic music actually is my first love Ah, so that is why your avatar is Tchaikovsky! I've been wondering about that for a while. Years ago I made an ardour template for virtual orchestration: https://github.com/michaelwillis/virtual-playing-orchestra-ardour-template I have learned...

Re: Eurydice

I did clash a bit with someone on a different thread, but I like this forum, the feedback from you guys and this hobby of mine too much to give up just because of some harsh words :) Ah, understood. Text-only communication is notoriously hard; it is not always clear when somebody is close to their ...
