For jam-track makers
I've been tinkering with ideas, reference the learning/practicing of guitar chords. I really dig some of the jam-tracks i find on the net but would like to see a more effortless approach, effortless on the client side, not the creation side :D :D :D https://tinyurl.com/y2saqhb6 (it's a huge file so ...

Laptop audio/video 2 AvReceiver wifi/blutooth?
During the day I do my music studying on my Asus-g73 laptop by the big TV and speaker set. I can connect the laptop HDMI to the amp but getting the Audacity guitar recording/monitoring output into the HDMI is a ROYAL PITA. Ergo, I'm thinking of wireless but don't even know where to begin???? I don't...

Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
I thought I had just posted about this but cannot find it, maybe I hit the cancel button. My apologies if it's duplication, gonna keep this edition short. I'm looking for a few 'pleasant enough' songs that use all but only the standard chords in their key. Slow rock would be good as it can be playe...

Re: the Dominant-7 chord in major/minor keys
It's definitely an organically grown thing, built around the functional needs of gigging musicians rather than any theoretical purity. It's important to understand that a lot of the redundancy and overlap is there to communicate context and intent rather than just "which notes do I play"....

Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
I think one of the reasons you didn't like the sound of the diatonic triads in scale order is that it is continuous parallel motion. It is possible to make the chords move downwards even though the roots are going up the scale like this : https://i.ibb.co/kx78VX9/Cdescending-Harmonised.png This is ...

Re: the Dominant-7 chord in major/minor keys
You're familiar with this : https://i.ibb.co/ZhGd5S0/Cmajor-Harmonised.png Seventh chords use the same principle adding another third on the top : https://i.ibb.co/6vf4ZcQ/Cmajor7-Harmonised.png A seventh isn't an 'addition'. You could call it an extension, but I usually call it a seventh :) I rese...

Re: DoReMiFa Solfege
Funny thing. In Russian there is only "Do Re Mi" note names which makes it very confusing. I find C D E much simpler. Good thing I've learned only English music theory. I never thought this thread would get 14000 reads. I have a question to people like you, people who from the outset had ...

Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
It's good to relate theory to musical examples. Then theory seems less like a set of abstract rules. The sound comes first, then theory arises to describe common practices. So for a seventh chord from outside the key I'll use The Girl From Ipanema . https://i.ibb.co/6nzb8Qx/Two-Bars-Ipanema.png The...

the Dominant-7 chord in major/minor keys
I'm trying to complete the bottom right section of the cheatsheet linked below. The vii chord for the major keys is a diminished chord beside which I added he Dominant-7 chord in a next column because it seems to be a pivotally important chord. In the minor keys below it the VII chord is a major cho...

Re{solved}: Dropstep (guitar) cheatsheet mystery, for Yodas
https://tinyurl.com/yy3ugsrf I edited the above dynamic cheatsheet some time ago and completely forgot what a simple aide-memoire on it was supposed to mean. The sheet is for dropstep guitar, featuring chord voicings that my fingers allow me to contemplate. If you like it save it because it's dated...

Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
don't we have to cite the key for a chord-build? No. B7 tells us four notes -- B D# F# A always and in any key. You've got the right idea -- start simple and build it up. Keep going! I need to know how to build one, the 7 chord is built from a major triad to which we add the lowered 7th. There's a ...

Re: Dropstep (guitar) cheatsheet mystery, for Yodas
If you write out the numbers in a line : 3 6 2 5 1 4 you notice 2 5 1 which is a common progression. These numbers are going round in fourths or anti-clockwise on the cycles of fifths. In C : Em Am Dm G C F It's left out 7 (viidim) because as we've seen that doesn't get used much. A lot of harmony ...

Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
Meanwhile here in learning-curve valley enjoying what the air-force calls helmet-fire, thank you first and foremost. Allow me to deal with the issues in a slightly different order. For a practice progression that uses all seven diatonic triads I came up with this : ||: F / / / | Bdim / / / | Em / / ...

Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
It's an interesting idea -- one song for all seven chords. Bob Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone has five out of seven, and they're in the right order. Verse : | C / Dm / | Em / F / | G / / / | G / / /| With previous ideas gone to file-13 I'm back reading THIS because my last flash-in-the-pan as of yest...
