Re: Using Linux for live gig work - how many would trust it?
i don't trust ANY generic OS, including Linux. so i even avoid Linux-based grooveboxes (AKAI MPC/Force line and NI Machine+). however, i have RPi running Linux for MIDI router job to handle three Korg NTS-1 units — well enough so far; i have Linux laptop as a spare sequencer (MusE 4 in MIDI-only mod...

Re: What DAW do you use?
MusE — as and old school MIDI sequencer for hardware boxes
Mixbus — for mixing/mastering jobs
Bitwig 8-track — i like it, but there's no proper MIDI export.

the only passthrought i can get on my laptops is USB passthrough.
and even that was not completely glitch-free in the past, not sure how things improved though.

Re: The state of Linux DAWs in 2021?
Any reason you didn't try Reaper? Reaper is paid. not expensive, but not that dirt cheap as Mixbus on the sales as well. (i bought mine for $19). so i would try it if/when i completely run out of free/cheaper options. anyway, i decided to stick with MusE 4 for now, because it does all needed jobs w...

Re: MusE 4.0pre3 released
this became my DAW of choice after some research i did last weekend.
i started from MusE 0.6 long long time ago, and eventually returning to it.

Re: The state of Linux DAWs in 2021?
oh, i encountered this thread in the right moment, because i spent last weekend choosing a Linux DAW, and have some rants^W impressions. of course, this all is about my particular workflow involving a lot of interactions with hardware. some 10–20 years ago everyone thought that such kind of workflow...

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?
same here.
i use DAW only for mixing & mastering, and Mixbus is absolutely superb for this kind of job.
(with all LV2 Harrison plugins, in my case)
prices are moderate to low, support is great, i'm allowed to install it on all my machines — all these things make me love it.

Re: KX Studio at the End of Standard Support - what now?
recently upgraded my 16.04-based Ubuntu installation with KXStudio repos to 18.04-based.
no major problems so far, even wine (which was the most troublesome when i tried to upgrade a year ago) works.
can't say anything about DE though, because i don't use KDE/Neon, using LXDE instead.

you probably need some OSS compatibility layer for /dev/midi.

Re: Selecting a recording mixer / interface
Zoom LiveTrak L-12 (or L-20 if 12 channels is not enough). i'm using L-12 and absolutely satisfied with it. it can record its 12 tracks + stereo master (totally 14 tracks) to an SD card simultaneously (24 bit / 44 or 48 kHz, or just 12 tracks in 96 kHz with mixer's onboard DSP EQ/reverb unavailable)...

Re: Are you addicted to a genre of music?
yes. 3 of them.
1) gothic rock (mainly 80s, i strongly dislike later metal influences)
2) goa trance
3) AC/DC

Re: [ANN] Open Source Music FM Synthesizer Challenge starts September 15th, 2018
It's probably too late to add them, but Csound, SuperCollider3, RtCmix, and PureData all include FM synthesis capabilities and they're all open-source. There are also Cabbage plugins that do FM preenfm2 synth has both open source firmware and hardware design. so, it's probably worth considering too.
