Re: Drawbacks of installing Ubuntu Studio 18.04?
If you have latency issues then maybe your PC is a bit old. Am I right in assuming that you use an old computer for Linux and a new one for Windows (or Mac)? You use XUbuntu which has the lightweight Xfce desktop environment. Nothing wrong with that but if you can't run "regular" Ubuntu a...

Re: Drawbacks of installing Ubuntu Studio 18.04?
Thanks for all the great responses; they were exactly what I was looking for! And @Linuxmusician01, re: being able to do everything in regular Ubuntu that I can in Ubuntu Studio, that's probably true at this point -- at least for Xubuntu with a low-latency kernel and the programs I regularly use -- ...

Drawbacks of installing Ubuntu Studio 18.04?
I need to upgrade the OS on my desktop (currently it's Ubuntu Studio 16.04), and I'm confused about what the fact that 18.04 isn't LTS means. My most important question is, does this cause any security vulnerabilities due to lack of updates? And also, what are the drawbacks an average Ubuntu Studio ...

Re: ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instrum
Did this get fixed? Tried for a while to compile zynaddsubfx and kept getting errors, but then today I noticed there was a new package called zynaddsubfx-dssi-git available from KXStudio and installed it instead of zynaddsubfx-dssi, and the plugin works great now!

Re: ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instrum
I found that the problem remains when I build Rosegarden myself. Interestingly, zynaddsubfx-dssi as installed from Ubuntu Studio doesn't show up in Rosegarden at all; only the kxstudio version does (but gives me the error). Is there a way to compile the zynaddsubfx-dssi plugin myself?

Re: ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instrum
Thanks for the response!
Is this a new development? Just a few weeks ago I was using ZynAddSubFX in Rosegarden in Ubuntu Studio 12.04, and it worked just fine. And the presets I was using (and therefore was trying to use again) are not ones that use PADSynth, if that is relevant.

ZynAddSubFX plugin in Rosegarden plays the wrong instruments
I recently installed Ubuntu Studio 14.04. I installed Rosegarden and couldn't get the ZynAddSubFX plugin to load in it until I installed the kxstudio packages. Now the plugin is available, but when I choose an instrument, I don't get the correct sound -- everything seems to be either a sine wave gen...

Re: is the linux-lowlatency kernel not being updated anymore
Oh wow, for some reason I thought Ubuntu Studio 12.04 was supported until 2017 like regular Ubuntu. Time to upgrade! Thanks!

is the linux-lowlatency kernel not being updated anymore?
I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and noticed that for the past several months there have been regular linux-generic kernel updates but none for linux-lowlatency, whereas they used to arrive at the same time. So now GRUB defaults me to the generic kernel unless I select 3.2.0-82-lowlatency from the previous kerne...

Re: rendering (not recording) MIDI tracks using sfz
Thanks for the responses! I hadn't realized Linuxsampler could be used as a plugin in Rosegarden. (Nor had I realized that about Fluidsynth or Zynaddsubfx -- I had seen them in the menu probably the first time I used Rosegarden and promptly forgot about it.) That greatly simplifies matters and basic...

rendering (not recording) MIDI tracks using sfz
I sequenced some MIDI tracks in Rosegarden. I'd like to render them as WAV files using the Salamander Grand Piano sfz. Is there a way to do this NOT in real time (i.e., offline rendering)? I ask because it seems that sending MIDI from one program to another and then sending it elsewhere to record wi...
