Tips for EDM production in Linux

Hello! I'd like to experiment a bit with electronic dance music. Is anybody here willing to share tips? Are there good blogs or Youtube tutorials? Mainly, I'd like to see how to create a nice "explosive" drum track. Also, are there any tutorials on how to do that in Linux (and using which ...

Repositories and SHA1

Hi all! I've been away for a while.
Has anyone managed to solve the repository encryption issue?
I haven't been able to update in ages, including Ardour (to version 5)!

Edit: by the way, I have 16.04.

Thanks.

Tell my system not to install any generic kernels anymore

I downloaded KXStudio from the repos and installed a low latency kernel, and then uninstalled linux-image-generic (the meta package). But for some reason, the system keeps updating the generic kernel every time a new version is out. (And moreover, it does not keep two versions of the lowlatency kern...

Re: How to choose as default output channels different from 1 and 2

Or maybe, is there a way to tell the Alsa-Jack bridge on *which channels* of the interface to connect?

Re: [solved] Slow Plasma boot after installing ksxtudio from repos

the amount of bugs in kde5 is too damn high! I wish they spent more time bugfixing instead of adding new stuff... :( With this Wayland thing, SDDM, and even the very Plasma 5 I'm actually quite content. It's still a little buggy, but it's much more clean, intuitive, free (driver-wise), and simple t...

Re: Slow Plasma boot after installing ksxtudio from repos

Oh wait nevermind. It's actually a bug of Plasma 5, KXStudio has nothing to do with it.

I bet this is something related to jack.

Could it be that it tweaks something about kde4 that conflicts with kde5?

Re: Slow Plasma boot after installing ksxtudio from repos

Does the kxstudio-welcome make any changes to KDE itself, which could be not compatible anymore with version 5?
Note that I haven't set the theme to the KXStudio one, I only ticked the other two options.

What does that program put in my home folder, for example?

Tell Cadence to use external interface only if detected

Is there a way to tell Cadence to start Jack with my external interface if it is present, and otherwise with the internal sound card? Every time I turn the computer on away from home I have no audio unless I restart manually the whole thing. It would be nice to automate it, can it be done maybe with...

Uhm, sounds like the kind of thing Claudia may be able to do. Has anyone tried?

[solved] Slow Plasma boot after installing ksxtudio from repos

Hello. I have Kubuntu 16.04. I have installed the kxstudio-welcome and kxtudio-meta-all packages (and relative dependencies), and did the 'changes' that the welcome screen proposed. Now everything works, except that the Plasma splash stops at the very end for about 20 seconds, with the fan going lik...

How to choose as default output channels different from 1 and 2

Hi. I have a multitrack interface. I would like all programs (Alsa bridge, Ardour, Audacity...) to output to channels 7 and 8 instead of 1 and 2. Can I tell my system (or Jack, or Cadence...) that the default output should be 7 and 8? Or is there a program/script to switch the channels? The reason i...

Hello! I've finally bought the Soundcraft Signature 12MTK, and IT IS CLASS COMPLIANT.
It works on Linux like a charm!
