Recommended motherboards

My desktop's old MSI G41M-P25 motherboard runs most versions of linux I've tried on it (though Knoppix 8.1 locks up), but I've yet to find a distro that can run Jack. I installed KXStudio on my laptop (Dell E6400) and it worked fine. Did the same on the desktop and it can't communicate with the moth...

Re: non-Jack recording software?

I burned the ISO to DVD for AV Linux, but don't see an option to install to HDD, only to run off the optical drive. I did the test run and no option to install there, either. How do you install it to HDD? Thanks.

Re: non-Jack recording software?

My input interface is the usb Lexicon Alpha (has worked with every distro I've tried), and the output is my on-board soundcard. I was able to get Jack working with Rosegarden by adding myself to the audio group and adding a few lines to the limits file. Feeling cocky, I installed Ardour and, presto,...

Re: non-Jack recording software?

No programming skill is required to USE Jack. But to get it working... I don't want to have to compile anything to get it working on my system, which it doesn't want to do. I wish someone would develop a commercial multi-track audio program for Ubuntu that doesn't rely on Jack. Seems with the Snowde...

non-Jack recording software?

I'm looking for something besides Audacity that doesn't have to use Jack. Jack doesn't work on my system and I don't want to develop programming skills to make it do so. Anything out there? Energy XT2 used to not require Jack, but it says 2.6 version does.... thanks. I've tried Ubuntu Studio and Dre...

Re: Hey from Nashville

Thanks for the links. Actually, the DreamStudio 11.04 seems to work the best so far. Jack sees the Alpha, I can choose it under Interface and the In/Out-puts become (default). Or I can change the In/Out-puts to the Alpha and the Interface becomes Default. The Alpha is the only card in my system as I...

Re: Hey from Nashville

Thanks guys. I will try your suggestions. I did install DreamStudio which is ubuntu 11.04. QjackCtl shows no errors in the message field with this build (unlike ubuntu studio 13), but still no input in Ardour. At least this build is consistent, since Audacity also doesn't do anything. But I can play...

Hey from Nashville

I'm a Cakewalk Sonar user, trying out Ubuntu Studio with a Lexicon Alpha, which works great with Ubuntu, as far as system sounds, Jack, Audacious & Audacity go -- not so good with Ardour (won't record) and Rosegarden (records but won't play back any sound). I'm thinking of trying 64 Studio, see ...
