Re: M-audio 66 error
There isn't a dedicated panning control.
You could achieve the same effect - not quite as conveniently - by twiddling the channel L/R sliders on the monitoring tabs though.
<edit> thinking about it, envy24contol's L/R gain controls might be better replaced with a pan and a master volume. I think this would be more elegant and easier to grasp than the current setup.
It's not the easiest program to learn as it is.
I did a bit of googling but didn't find much: does anybody know if envy24control is being actively developed? I get the impression that it's not. Anyone know better?

Re: M-audio 66 error
Yes, I think there is. I generally just use the one in Ardour - once the track is recorded then you can pan between the speakers by sliding the little slider to the left or the right.
Re: M-audio 66 error
Hi, sorry to dredge this post up again.
My 8.04(rt) install started getting sluggish, and things started to crash quite regularly, so I thought I'd give UbuntuStudio 9.10 a go. My God, it looks nice
It's much, much more responsive than 8.04 was, however, I have the same problem with the sound card not working.
I did the modprobe (as was suggested above, this worked in 8.04), but this time it doesn't work
I looked in the dmesg and found this:
ICE1712 0000:03:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
ICE1712: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -14
Any idea what this might mean? I'm hoping it doesn't mean that there is no kernel support for this card - I'm not good at getting things working by compiling kernel modules. I've tried a few times and ended up bald!
Any ideas?

Re: M-audio 66 error
hi, dchurch. I don't think this is a kernel problem - ICE1712 is well supported.
I'm using a delta44 which is the same chipset and my dmesg says
" ICE1712 0000:00:0a.0: found PCI INT A -> IRQ 4".
This sounds like a hardware problem. I don't see, from a software point of view, why your previous ubuntu install should get sluggish and crash a lot either.
Are you dual booting with windows? Have you run a virus scan?
( My son got a virus on his windows box and it _completely_ trashed the BIOS. I hope this isn't your problem .... )
[EDIT] obvious things first: have you checked that the sound card is sitting firmly in its slot and that the cable is fixed in tight?

Re: M-audio 66 error
Dual boot Windows? Hare dare you!?
No, it's a clean full install of UbuntuStudio 9.10 64 bit.
I checked that the card and cable were all in properly, and they were.
I don't think it's hardware, as I installed 9.10 on a new HDD meaning that I can simply plug the old HDD in and boot into 8.04 - which I did, and all is still working fine.
I think the 8.04 install simply got sluggish because of volume. I had 2x520gb drives in there that were both at near capacity.

Re: M-audio 66 error
Apologies! No offense intended!
Did you run alsaconf on your new install and check the mixer settings again?

Re: M-audio 66 error
No, I don't have it installed and it's not in the alsa-tools package any more.
I did, however, just reinstall from scratch (I had a few video errors too and a few other things, I figured I'd give it a try), but the card is still not there.

Re: M-audio 66 error
Got it!
I had to add
options snd-ice1712 model=delta66 (or delta1010LT - it doesn't seem to matter)
in the
# Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index 0
section of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Had to fiddle around a bit with Jack after that (I can't remember exactly what I did, but it was in the output settings).
Can't test recording yet though - my guitar is still in for it's annual service!

Re: M-audio 66 error
I'll say!
I thought I'd post it up here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
I can't wait to get my guitar back - I miss Ardour!
(I hear a rumour that v.3 is coming out soon)
