Spectral profile system (color profile systems)

Though it is about software, it is related directly to HW, so posting it there for begining.

Just like graphical monitors and printers have own color profile systems, i'm searching for same system, but working around some system-wide audio equalizer (e.g., alsa eq plugin).
Essentially, some components, like monitors and mics with RCA or jack interfaces, can't be detected and must be selected manually.
It should be handy at least because currently such correction is done manually, relying only for own perfection, and not all may have measuring hardware - i know, it is needed for recording (though would like it for listening as well :] ).

I understand, that it might don't exist... some simple database would be nice (at least for those without official data, published by vendor... for which i also have to search).
