Just found this funny little python script (just 80 lines of code), which will turn your (PC) keyboard into a synthesizer.

I don't know about anything else but that's impressive playing on a qwerty keyboard!

Indeed. :D

From the developers point of view, this is interesting, because it is a Wave Table synth, which create the wave table on the fly, by time stretching and pitch shifting from a wav snippet, and provide a keymap for the wave table, in just 80 lines of python code.
Additional it have a key-map creating tool, which allow you to create your own keymap, for the case you didn't use qwerty.
