I took my Boss Micro BR portable 4 track for a walk on an island in coastal Maine a few years ago. I just pulled the files off it and chopped out the best short samples. These were all recorded by an active PZM microphone. For those of you that don't know, PZM's gather sound as it's reflected of a flat(ish) surface. In essence, you're turning whatever you tape the thing to into a microphone. I've found them to be the most versatile mic in my cache of choices(I wouldn't use it for vox, but everything else is fair game!) So for the ocean the PZM was laid on a flat(ish)granite slap that the ocean was slapping up against. For the crickets I ducktaped the PZM to a tree with a flat spot. The perspective of the rocks and the trees! Anyway, if you ever want some royalty-free crickets or ocean sounds, have at it! These have been chopped into 16-bit standard wavs.
