Hi,
I got some probllem to get my config working.
First, a description : Ubuntu 14.04, ZOOM S2t plugged in USB. The ZOOM is detected. Wehn I select its input in audio parameters and I play music, I can see the meter moving. So, it seems there is no hardware problem.
The first problem I have is that I can't select ZOOM input to record. I tried with Audacity and Ardour. With Audacity, it works sometimes, with Ardour, never. I tried Using QjackCtl but I don't undestand the way it works. When jack runs, I have no more audio on my system (audio test in audio parameters doesn't work, if I kill jack instance, audio is back)
Second problem is that I have no midi. I installed timidity, I tried running Qsynth. At one time, it worked, but no more now.
So, how can I easily select audio input ?
I saw that not all sound card could manage midi. How can I check that ? If it doesn't, what can I do ?
Thanks in advance
oliv

If understanding is what you seek, read this thread. It covers a small subset of usage and configuration issues.

Re: Understanding music in linux
Jack takes over your audio. This is normal. You wont get sound from non jack applications unless you route the sound
architecture its using (alsa, pulseaudio) to it.
Give this a readthrough: http://www.64studio.com/quickstart_jack
Since you're on Ubuntu you will probably need to install pulseaudio-module-jack.
When you have jack running, go to your pulseaudio settings and select jack sync (something like that) as you audio device
for non jack applications to have sound.
Hope this helps.
